Weird that we have to say this, but the government doesn’t get to decide what gender a person is.

today is a day for art and books and people who think about life deeply, so please recommend your most heart breaking, mind altering, beautiful books to read #booksky

Whatever happens, never forget: READING FOR PLEASURE has the biggest positive impact of any factor on children's life chances. So always make time to share books with kids, and help them find books to love. Make reading central to everything you do. It will change their lives forever!

I’ve worked in publishing for nearly 10 years and I can definitively say TikTok has helped save this industry, whether you like certain subsets or not. Free markets need participants and we are at an all time literacy crisis. But I can explain its effects in the past few years

I think it is important for freedom of assembly to apply to the places where people assemble.
I miss the days when people didn't consider having a social media account a first amendment right. Funny how attitudes changed when people discovered they could monetize these things innit

first I lost Twitter and now tiktok and let me tell you, those apps were saving you all from me. I was distracted, posting my little stories about books, looking up recipes, watching power washing videos. now that’s been stripped from me I’m going back to the STREETS. I will be a menace to society

I’m trying to put together a “reading wrapped” for 2024 and it’s such a mix of emotionally damaging books, books with monsters, and books in which I can’t look people in the eye and say I’ve read. So I’ll just keep this in the drafts

With December almost here, it’s just about time for book people to put on their favorite publishing Christmas film, The Holiday, where Jude Law is a book editor with an estate that has a name.

I cannot stress enough, if you traditionally publish through a reputable house, an advance is guaranteed money you never have to pay back. You can only build and earn upon it. If an author cries online bc their Big 5 publisher “want money back for bad sales,” the author is manipulating you for money

if you turn on season 3 episode 11 of Gossip Girl at exactly 11:41pm tonight you will hear the beginning chords of Jason Derulo’s “Whatcha Say” at exactly midnight the morning of Thanksgiving

okay I’ve screamed about this elsewhere, but please please, if you are a book person who eats up romance and interconnected stories I need you to watch Rivals because it is quite literally everything to me right now and if gets cancelled I’ll go float face down out at sea

It's weird that Looking for Alaska is the second-most banned book in the U.S., and mostly challenged by evangelical Christians, because the novel is about Radical Hope and how forgiveness is available to all people at all times, which are Christian concepts I wrote about because I'm a Christian.

In these trying times I’ve gained perspective and realized that I’ve missed my true calling in life, which is being a three times widowed queen, or utterly useless seer, or perhaps a hot vessel for a demon

oh this book actually had me gasping, swooning, giggling, screeching like a pterodactyl at 2 am

please scream about this with me and then when it comes out buy 15 copies for you and friends and throw it at strangers’ heads because it is perfection and I’m totally cool about it
I am THRILLED to announce that I am now represented by the incredible @emilykaitlin.bsky.social of BookEnds Literary!! ✨

I know that to protect our hearts, we’re not supposed to have dream agents, but the moment I heard Emily’s passion and vision for SWINDLED, I knew I’d found mine!

Kamilah is my arch nemesis, my biggest hater, my worst opp, and the love of my life

This book is so incredibly fun and gorgeous. It’s everything I want in angry girls and beautiful gowns and socialites behaving badly and kissing boys and emotionally damaging everybody

✨ YA BOOK NEWS ✨

I'm so excited to announce that my next YA duology, a romantasy called WICKED ENDEAVORS, is coming in Summer 2026!

If So Let Them Burn was about the power of love, then Wicked Endeavors is about the poisonous yet motivating power of hate. Black female rage abounds in this one 😈
