We need to see AI for what it is, what it can do well, what it does not do well and, most importantly, what it can do to us. We humans need to make decisions based upon the effects that AI has upon all of us, not just how it affects the bottom line of some of us.

US Universities are complaining that because of AI students are applying who cannot write English - they can read well enough to play video games, but they are functionally illiterate. Many have not held a physical book since grade school. They can print words, but not form sentences.

I am not a big fan of many of the reasons that the US has sent men and women into harms way.
However, if one guardsman, marine or any member of our armed services get so much as a hangnail supporting fascist drive to overthrow our democracy, I will consider any of these injuries as high crimes.
