Useful thing for Aussie people juggling jobs: the Fair Work Ombudsman has an app called Record My Hours which doesn't store your data (unlike all the other freelancer type apps/programs out there) and lets you track actual hours worked in a way that is lowkey and doesn't add too much cognitive load.

Christopher Pyne, the same person who sought (unsuccessfully) to deregulate university fees in Australia only a decade ago. What acts of social, cultural, and intellectual vandalism does he now have in mind for Australia's National Library? Dark days ahead.

Look, I know we're all sick of hearing "if this had happened with any other president ..." but it's absolutely true and absolutely can't be forgotten.

For some reason, this nation gives this idiotic spoiled brat a free pass from things that would destroy the administration of any other person.
When asked if there was anything "incriminating" in Epstein's emails, Trump pointed a finger in a female reporter's face and snapped. 'Quiet. Quiet, Piggy.'

This is appalling! And the most narrow minded view of education, not to mention self contradictory - all we need are micro-certainly, but also do better on research that requires expertise! Also, if politicians want better results in research rankings, maybe they should properly fund research?
Absolutely horrific concepts for the university sector from Bill Shorten, now VC of the University of Canberra. A vision for the utter decimation of higher education

It baffles me that @australianlabor.bsky.social wants to hang this failed, unfair policy around its neck, when they could condemn it as a folly of the unpopular Morrison government and ditch it. Sign our petition to urge them to abolish it now!

I finished reading SPOCK’S WORLD by @diane.dianeduane.com last night with my Star Trek book club and the line that knocked us all flat on our asses was when a smug Vulcan logic bro says “the data speaks for itself,” and Bones replies “NO data speaks for itself. data just lies there. PEOPLE speak.”

Questions to think about when writing a book review:
- what does the book argue?
- does it adhere to scholarly standards?
- does it achieve what the author set out to do?
- why did I agree to write a book review?
- I mean sure, free book, but now I have to write a book review
- ugh this is the worst

Douthat also fundamentally misunderstands how college teaching generally works, even in the relatively narrow areas that he targets (but mistakenly assumes to be the whole of higher education). Take my field history, for example, where we often emphasize the analysis of primary sources./4
