I’ve gotten so used to people acting like I’m crazy for speaking out that I’ve been quieter only to retain my own personal sanity. But I’m so glad to hear a judge saying the same: cutting MOSAIC and other grants IS the discrimination.
It's 2p here in Boston, and we're back on the record in the NIH grant terminations case.

It's possible Judge Young could issue some sort of ruling here in the next few minutes, or he could provide more context for case management going forward.

Stay tuned.
⚖️ HUGE day today in the NIH terminations cases

There's a trial (of sorts) at 10a ET in Boston today for arguments that NIH unlawfully terminated 100s of grants.

It's a 3 hour hearing and I'll post periodic updates.

Of note: this is the 1st lawsuit filed against the Trump Admin to go to trial.

As a part of the @standupforscience.bsky.social Summer Fight for Science campaign, we want to host 1000 teach ins across the US between now and Sept 30th.

Yeah, it’s a big, hairy, audacious goal. I know.

Here is a running list of ideas, please scoop and do! 🧵🪡

HAPPY TAX DAY!
How much would you spend on a year of tornado warnings? The average US taxpayer spends only $4 a year to help fund the NWS. It’s a smart investment—every $1 invested in NWS yields approx. $73 in social benefits.
🌪️❄️ Support science. Support the NWS.

Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.

I've already had two federal grants terminated and face a 33% pay cut due to future terminations. It's painful, but not as painful as the conversations I'm having every day with brilliant trainees in graduate school and postdoctoral positions who see little future for themselves in US science.

Really important piece to share widely. Too many Americans don’t know how severe a threat this Administration poses to our scientific infrastructure, global leadership, and health security

Excited to share a new preprint that discovered how skin fibroblasts are active participants in acute & long-term pain states & not just bystanders. We know this research, partly funded by the NIH will drive the development of new pain drugs. @elsanchez09.bsky.social
