Very happy to see The Safekeep win the Women's Prize for Fiction. It's been discussed a lot online given its multiple prize-listings, and I've been interested to see how people's experiences of reading it have been shaped by how much they know (or not) about The Netherlands in/post WW2

My (stolen) mantra that teachers should also be students has been stretched to a new level of karma this year, after I enrolled in an evening class without realising that I would also be required to complete the assessments.

Respect to the Politics colleagues who made the argument to me - in the early 2000s - that celebrity politics was the coming thing. The two realms are now fused.

🚨Warning: Elon Musk

A record of Musk's commentary on UK politics since 13 Nov, when he was appointed Trump's efficiency tsar

The analysis suggests an uptick in vitriolic commentary from the preceding period, and a return to the conspiracy-laden remarks that characterised Musk's summer criticism 1/

In seeing my millennial cultural references no longer land, I've apparently decided to go back much, much further.

My students were spared my obsession with Dracula in a lecture on the development of democracy in Europe, because I was sicker than a vampire separated from their dirt boxes

My take on the #BookerPrize this year is that Stoneyard Devotional absolutely slaps. The Safekeep could be better, but slaps. Orbital will be marmite, captivated me for the first half. Held is for those gifted with patience.

This week I'll be talking to students about celebrity endorsements during UK GE2015. This will be the third year in a row.
