Many important weather and climate data streams have gone silent as the U.S. government shutdown continues on.

As just one example, NOAA’s Global Monitoring Laboratory did not release its regular monthly update for greenhouse gases, such as for carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide.

“Total structural failure is possible near the path of #Melissa’s center.”

185 mph winds, 892 mb central pressure - ranking top 5 strongest hurricanes ever in the Atlantic basin, but the most heartbreaking part…we are just hours away from landfall 😢💔

“Extensive infrastructural damage, long-duration power & communication outages, & isolation of communities are expected.” 😔 Strong warnings from NHC for Jamaica. Up to 40 rain could cause numerous life-threatening & catastrophic flash floods & landslides on the island.

🌡️Late October warmth builds this weekend with highs running 3–8°C above average.

🔴Fingerprint of climate change: By Sunday–Monday, this kind of heat would be nearly impossible without human-caused climate change -- made at least 5x more likely

The American Meteorological Society's formal response to "foundationally flawed" DOE mis/disinformation report on #ClimateChange is excellent & timely. Frankly, I have been more impressed w/@ametsoc.org's ability to effectively meet the moment this year than other scientific professional societies.
New AMS statement outlines five foundational flaws that make the Department of Energy's Climate Synthesis Report "inconsistent with scientific principles and practices."

🦈 SHARKS! You hear the iconic beat from the iconic movie every summer. In the last 50 years since its release, “Jaws” changed pop culture & public perception of sharks. These creatures swam with dinosaurs, but it’s our human footprints that are changing their habitats more than ever before.
