Why is the gas industry notorious for paying so little tax, despite making billions in revenue?

Santos has made it 10 years in a row paying no tax!

How ScoMo stuffed the GST
Scott Morrison’s GST deal with Western Australia stuffed the system, but there are plenty of ways the Government could make it better.

No, immigrants aren't to blame for the housing crisis.
The idea that mass immigration is to blame for the housing crisis doesn't stack up when you look at the data.

Over the past 20 years the amount of housing in Australia has actually increased faster than the population has grown! 📈

Was stunned by @emmashortis.bsky.social' recent vid of a nightmare gas rig near a major natural site in Vic, Australia.

So: pretty wild to find out Victoria (a) exports more gas than it burns and (b) is burning less gas! There is no 'gas shortage' -->>>>

The Government’s Safeguard Mechanism is supposed to limit emissions.

Instead, it just lets companies cheat.

The massive carbon bomb North West Shelf project met 100% of its Safeguard target using dodgy carbon offsets that won't cancel out its huge emissions.

How much coal would the French have to find under the Louvre to destroy it? How much gas would the UK need to find under Stonehenge to knock it down?

Australia must be the richest country in the world willing to destroy its ancient heritage for one more gas project #climate
The Murujuga rock art is one of Australia's most priceless heritage sites.

And it's being slowly destroyed.

If Environment Minister Murray Watt approves the 50 year extension to the North West Shelf, it will be a death sentence for Murujuga.

It really is difficult to put into words how incredible and awe-inspiring Murujuga is.

It's a truly unique record of the history and creativity of the human species.

But our Federal Government seems to value gas industry profits more. What does that say about Australia?

If you ran the govt like a business, you'd a) treat borrowing as a business-as-usual way of operating, rather than something to be avoided, b) you'd borrow for investments on their merits, rather than wait for cash to be available, c) you wouldn't cut core capacity in response to short-term shocks.
