And now it appears it was John Thune, not Cruz, who is receiving more of the credit (or blame)

I'm told Sen. Ted Cruz led this effort. Senate Judiciary Committee Democrats weren't consulted on the addition of this language, per a source familiar. Committee's top Dem, Dick Durbin, was among the 8 Ds who voted to advance the spending measure last night.

I’m with you on this. There needs to be more pushback for these kinds of moves by politicians, especially after an election like last Tuesday’s. My suspicion is this move is, in part, to try to take the wind out of our sails over that performance & allow corporate interests to reassert control.

Call for a party vote, relieve Dick Durbin from his position as minority whip.

Either the dem leadership cant manage their members, or they supported caving. Either is disgusting.

Dick’s job is to enforce votes, he didnt do his job, so he loses it.

Agreed. I suspect he’ll be allowed to ride out to pasture, though, since he’s announced his retirement in ‘26.

And again, we're not guaranteed to win, and we're not going to sit around hoping for a win. We need to be out there working—out doing the anti-authoritarian work in the streets that needs doing, pushing candidates and electeds to do more, building grassroots infrastructure. Working. Fighting.

To be clear, what I'm saying here is that you can't make Schumer not-Schumer by shaming him. That doesn't mean you shouldn't shame him recreationally, as a team-building exercise, or pour encourager les autres.
Part of what it means to be Team Fight is a recognition that you win by winning. Just as Schumer can't shame Trump into being something other than what he is, we can't shame Schumer and the rest.

The job is to beat them. The job is to win.
