Eti doesn't exactly fear abandonment: death will separate us all for a time, relationships, like bodies, decay and pass into new things.

But they are afraid that if they stop making themselves a commodity in others' lives that the people they love will move on. They fear being dull or inadequate.

Emet-Selch is a fucking vampire cursed to live in his grief longer than he can actually remember it. But the best part about him is that he just doesn't give a shit about the WoL and that's very humanizing not just of him but of the WoL.

The Elpis stuff defanged him a bit. Not a huge fan.
