What a great way to celebrate International Women’s Day by having the Women of Woodworking project mentioned in the @nytimes.com with other incredible women artists. We got a great full page spread in today’s Sunday paper!!
We’ve lost two teens to bacterial meningitis in SC this summer alone. As a survivor I know how important it is to raise awareness to help prevent and protect against this disease to save lives and families. I shared my story with @postandcourier.bsky.social www.postandcourier.com/opinion/comm...
Commentary: Meningitis took so much from us. You can help stop it in SC.
Meningitis can have devastating impacts, and parents must understand their children may not be fully protected with just one meningitis shot. Vaccines can help.

Getting reports that yet another young teenager is fighting for their life against bacterial meningitis here in South Carolina. We need state-focused efforts to improve vaccine education. Our children are paying a terrible price. A “rare” disease like this has clearly found a home in our state.

I learned long ago: Meaningful engagement isn’t possible with someone who ignores or dismisses power dynamics and expects those who are oppressed (or are in solidarity with those being oppressed) to equally engage or assume the burden, responsibility, or accountability as those doing the oppressing.

There is something special happening in Orangeburg, South Carolina. The Orangeburg Civic Ballet brings dance education and arts engagement to some of the most rural counties in our state. Not only do kids get a chance to perform, but they also provide performances for local schools as well. 1/🧵

As a disabled woman I used to be afraid to watch the world speed past me. It’s taken a lot of work to enjoy my own place and pace, but it’s so worth it. Dare I say I prefer it.

Wow, comments went from a 181 to 1,000+ overnight. Grateful for everyone who shared their voice to support such an important moment in safe vaccine development that will save lives.
