Independence Northeastern winter sun shines on my cold hands guiding the controls of my wheelchair. I enter Independence Hall like many others have before through the back door the accessible entrance. I glide into the great Assembly Room and ask myself the same question we’ve asked since 1776 what would the founding fathers think? Of a great granddaughter of poor immigrants that fled facism for freedom being a mother of their descendants she lives on science, faith, hope, protests, and progress a keeper of the promise. Reflections from the future their voices heard here. What they began is up to us to complete. They said it was ours I’m here to claim it. I can see from my chair a distance we still have to go. Their words we were told it’s up to us to hold them to it. We are still brave enough to come through the back door to do it. -k. thompson

There is something special happening in Orangeburg, South Carolina. The Orangeburg Civic Ballet brings dance education and arts engagement to some of the most rural counties in our state. Not only do kids get a chance to perform, but they also provide performances for local schools as well. 1/🧵

I got to share a special moment with the kids as I saw my name and the Women of Woodworking project in a physical copy of the NYTimes for the first time.

It was always a dream of mine to write for or have my work mentioned in the NYT. I wish I could tell younger me we did it.

I spent the evening speaking with fellow advocates and survivors of both meningitis and spinal cord injuries and I’m feeling more determined than ever. We’ve been through hard things before.

My eyes may be red and puffy from this journey, but I am still here. And so are you. Let’s do this.
