I wish Americans understood that they subsidize lower drug costs in other countries with the outrageous prices they pay for medicines (bc no centralized insurer). Pharma companies take losses in countries with socialized medicine bc they make profits in the US

Politicians who do racism cynically to play to some imagined constituency of bigots are scarier than the ones who do it instinctively, because IMO the natural racists do have *some* actual limit unless they're a Hitler-tier freak. Cynic politicians regularly do not.

If there was a “coarsening” of society, surely it occurred when businesses were established to profit off denying people healthcare. The main joke people are making in response to Thompson’s death is merely to treat it with the bloodless bureaucratic indifference that these companies perfected.
