Today, over 20,000 bee species are buzzing for #WorldBeeDay 🐝

Bees & other pollinators keep 80% of crop and wild flowering plants alive.

Yet, 1 in 10 bee, hoverfly, and butterfly species are now at risk of extinction in the EU.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

Tariffs are the new climate science denial. Cherry pick your 1% outlier 'expert' (e.g. Peter Navarro/Dick Lindzen), reject the 99% expert consensus, insulate yourself in a bubble of like-minded deniers, and convince yourself that any day now reality will change and prove you right.

One of the most important solutions to climate change is *stopping deforestation* -- yet we still largely ignore it.

We need to work on this...fast. After all, deforestation emits more CO2 than the *entire US economy*.

Some thoughts about moving forward:

How stopping deforestation is a powerful “emergency brake” climate solution
When people think of climate solutions, they often focus on smokestacks, tailpipes, and other artifacts of our fossil-fueled economy. That’s fitting since roughly two-thirds of the world’s greenhouse ...

If we are trying to preserve NIH research money, the government should get some of the profits from the research the taxpayers funded. I'm fine with people making profits from their innovations, but the story of this drug development shows that can be taken to extremes most people don't imagine
How did a drug rooted, like many, in seed money from the U.S. government — that is, American taxpayers — and spurred by the grassroots fundraising of desperate parents, end up with a $2 million per dose price tag?

What a $2 Million Per Dose Gene Therapy Reveals About Drug Pricing
Taxpayers and charities helped develop Zolgensma. Then it debuted at a record price, ushering in a new class of wildly expensive drugs. Its story upends the widely held conception that high prices…

Incompetence in Washington puts every American at risk, no matter how you voted. No one should be happy that the DOGE team - the same folks who randomly published classified U.S. security information online today - wants access to your bank account & Social Security numbers.

More than 2 million oil and gas wells sit unplugged in the U.S., many leaking contaminants into waterways, farmland and neighborhoods.

Time and time again, oil companies have walked away — leaving taxpayers to pay for cleanup. Here’s how.

Oil executive Tom Ragsdale walked away from his old wells, making the pollution left behind the state of New Mexico’s problem. His tactics, however, are ubiquitous in the industry.
