It's taken a lot longer than initially expected, but Stein's Law remains undefeated, and it is coming for Russia's economy

The pre-holiday week is typically one of my favorites in what's otherwise my least favorite times of the year because everyone else is off prepping for holidays and I get head down, meeting free work blocks where my brain can rest and I can focus on research and things I've been putting off.

My lands we do get some lovely sunrises over the river on icy winter mornings.

#nowspinning Kurt Vile’s “Walkin’ on a Pretty Daze.” Special place in my brain for this record that I purchased shortly after its release (2013 Matador) but didn’t get into deeply until 2016 when I was having severe anxiety. “Too Hard” lyrics inspired me to quit my job and start my consultancy.

I love winter weather but very much enjoying a little sunshine and practicing my golf announcing while visiting my parents this weekend. Back to snowy GR tomorrow.

A very busy day. But here’s Banff, which I’ve been daydreaming about a lot lately. I was there two Januarys ago and miss it terribly.

One thing I really miss from bluesky that's on other platforms is the ability to edit my post. I've made so many fat fingered mistakes that i've had to delete and repost three times today.

More than years ago (2012), Manfred Spitzer coined the term "Digital Dementia." Today, I'm working on tracking a body of new and emerging research and weak signals that include research into how AI, multi- device processing rising screen time is destroying memory and task processing. Send signals!

There are so many things and people I love in Texas, but this is so ridiculously tragic and 100 percent avoidable. These bands have essentially created a chilling effect on a doctor's ability to recommend the safest and most impactful treatment in miscarriage. Barbaric. Unsafe. Dangerous.
A 3rd woman died under Texas' abortion ban. Doctors are avoiding D&Cs & reaching for riskier miscarriage treatments.

Porsha Ngumezi’s case raises questions about how abortion bans are pressuring docs to avoid standard care even in straightforward miscarriages. www.propublica.org/article/pors...

First spin of the day is Hatchback's "Colors Of The Sun." The brainchild of Samuel Milton Graves, the 2008 release is heavy into spacey, electronic vibes and even a bit of disco and Kraut rock. Probably the most beat heavy in his discography. For fans of Neu!, Tangerine Dream, Lusine and Windsurf.

First spin of the day is an absolute masterpiece of a record. “Kind of Blue” from Miles Davis. Closing track “Flamenco Sketches” has always been my favorite on this LP. It’s sad and wandering and, well, kind of blue.

First spin of the day is The Gloria Record’s (ex Mineral) phenomenal sophomore EP “A Lull In Traffic.” This is the Big Scary Monsters repress from 2020 and it’s a delight. For fans of atmospheric/symphonic indie with jangly, soaring guitars and heavy tempo changes. Fav track =“The Arctic Cat.” #vinyl

With GM's latest layoffs (don't get me started on how poorly those were conducted) i'm thinking a lot about the #futureofwork in the US. More specifically, I'm starting to scan around shifts in pre-employment negotiations around severance, employer "quiet cutting" and a host of other weak signals.

Weighing out and evaluating tools to move my signal tracking and scanning radar work from Miro, Evernote and notebooks. Hoping one tool. I've tried Diigo and played with Raindrop Io a bit. Calling on my #foresight, #journalism and #research friends... what are you liking these days and why?

Reposting this because helpful. While I’ve found this much easier to acclimate to than threads, getting some of the nuances of surfacing content you want is helpful in these.
Bumping this for all the newbies.

Make sure you catch both parts. The first part shows you how to find the content you WANT to see, and the second shows you how to filter out the content you DON'T want to see.
It's up!!!! My Explainer video for BlueSky beginners.

I cover how to find your Twitter followers, Starter Packs, Feeds, Lists, some handy-dandy tools, and BlueSky etiquette.

Please watch and/or share with any newbies you know. I think it's helpful.

Based only the first three tracks I’ve heard so far, I’m giddy for Kim Deal’s debut solo record release this Friday. Anyone else digging on the new stuff?

This is brutal, and seeing how other media outlets are downplaying it through word choice makes it worse.
Terrible news today:

This year, one-third of coral cover has been destroyed in two northern sections of the Great Barrier reef due to anthropogenic heating.

Results for the southern sections (which were even hotter) have not been officially released.

Quickly finding my old content strategy and information architect brethren and heroes here has been a joy. I miss when we were all cross posting, sharing and lifting each other up at conferences and talks.
