Once again, a very welcome initiative, but the Church's role in biodiversity loss is a far wider topic, for this thread, or even illustrated by the article.

I urge members of the faith to consider the historic role of the church, to better inform their role as we invite nature back into the fold.

Christianity played a key role in driving a stake between us as a people, and our landscape and habitats.

This is a vital stepping stone towards the subsequent Anglo-Norman conquest, as people felt less connected towards their landscape, newly earmarked for salvage to fill a foreign royal coffer.

After Christianity was introduced, the reverence with which the Irish held their wild spaces was reduced.

The Christian colonisation included the conversion (likely violent) of pagan holy wells to Christian ones. It also included the establishment of Christian wild places of solitude, dyserts.

Before the Christian colonisation of Ireland, the Irish people would have considered the environment, the trees and the landscape to be sacred.

Settlements were created beside areas of wilderness at this time, to receive the divine protections provided by their pagan gods....

The pine marten is Ireland's rarest (and one of our prettiest) native mammals, and was almost lost to extinction through hunting for fur, poisoning, and destruction of their forest habitat. www.ciaraioch.com/artprints/p/...

The removal of invasive species is a vitally important aspect of protecting the environment.

It's highly misleading to imply that the eradication effort would invariably lead to incidents of animal cruelty.

It goes without saying the like of your man below won't be involved in the work! Xx
