And doubly weird when an author will be like, "Oh I won't use gen-AI for writing, but I'll use it for my cover art for my book." Great, so you just pointed your disdain and disrespect toward another class of artists. You can shove them out of the way as long as you get to keep going? Nah, c'mon. No.

Like, even on my worst day of writing, a day where the writing feels like I'm banging my head against a rock, I never wish I could just push a fucking button to write that page, or that paragraph, or even a sentence. I want to do the work! THE WORK IS MYSTERIOUS AND IMPORTANT

Never mind the absurdity of the idea of being a writer who doesn't write -- you're now a "writer" who "writes" using STOLEN material. What an insult. What an act of disrespect toward those who came before -- those who did the work, who developed a voice, who learned their craft.

"I want to be a writer who doesn't write" is just such absurd, weak, lazy shit. Do the work. The work is clarifying. You just want to push a button and have a machine excrete content -- content formed by digesting the work of the *actual* writers who came before you.
