I remain puzzled as to why some continue to trot out that academia is not the "real world". I have endless responsibilities, deadlines, expectations, and work long hours. This is my "real world" & I hope that my efforts over a long career contribute to improving the "real world" of others. 🧪

Did some field excursions with the local #mosquito control district here in WA looking for evidence of resistance; we collected thousands of Culex larvae despite only having 4 precipitation events this summer - how?
all of them were likely there directly from watering lawns and at home car washes

Just a bonkers life history - I've seen this variation of sexual parasitism, but across species? Wild to see just the male genetic material becoming cloned 🧪 #evobio
Living organisms are assumed to produce same-species offspring. A study in Nature reports a shift from this norm in Messor ibericus, an ant that lays individuals from two distinct species. go.nature.com/3V68MP0 🧪

From 2020 to 2022 COVID vaccines prevented over 18.5 million hospitalizations, 3.2 million deaths and saved the US $1.15 trillion.

mRNA vaccines and treatments are being developed for diabetes, HIV, cancer, and more. Imagine how many more lives we could save if we don't defund science.
