The medium where mtx, gacha, live service, survivorlikes have become normalized and accepted. The medium where scale is worshipped like nothing else. The medium where important history is lost and tech upgrades are treated as artistic upgrades. The fans of this medium is for sure going to resist genAI

Demo Day 64 is here. I'm sharing an early development preview of MARRAS. The demo link is in the first reply to this post. It may have bugs and incomplete features and could change. I'd appreciate your feedback to help improve it. Please spread the word!

There's a tradeoff between how much you couch your language in soft qualifiers for the sake of being some standard of polite or nonjudgmental, and your ability to effectively make your argument.

Having standards and holding games to them isn't corrosive, it's just the nature of making this argument

So many indie game publishers are fucking vultures dude. Devs gotta stay the fuck away unless they're gonna get funding or need something extremely specific like a console release and can't do it in any other way

Browsing wplace a bit it's kinda nice to see how relevant millennial online culture still is for zoomers. Sometimes it feels like due to the net culture moves at an insane pace but then if you look at what zoomers like, a lot of it is a big soup of the same type of shit I was into as a teen

All of this controversy made Rule Of Rose a cult game; extremely expensive and collectible. But, having tried to play it a couple of times, I don’t think it’s very good. It’s telling that no one ever talks about the actual game…
In 2006, Rule of Rose had quite the troubled time getting published in Europe. It all started in October from Italian magazine Panorama, which denounced the perverted content in the game (that wasn't there). The article was also mostly plagiarized from an online review.
It didn't end there🧵

@boghogstg.bsky.social working on a Final Fight 1CC; shifting obviously changes a lot about the route, but how important is it to play "honest?" From a learning perspective, what do you lose?
How honest is an average 1CC, and what's considered *too* cheesy?

I think an interesting question for designers, especially of more niche styles, is what they'd make if they didn't have to worry about teaching/introducing new players to anything, if they were guaranteed an audience. What kinda game would they make and why? Alot of designers are translators

Whenever arcade genres/styles get severed from the arcade design ethos they, the devs and the players massively suffer from an artistic pov in the long run. I hear a little dark age edit playing in my head every time I say shit like this but in this case its true

Thinking about how much my perspective on formalizing stuff in games is driven by over a decade of trying to convince ppl that arcade games aren't quarter munchers via stuff like 1cc endings. Ppl underestimate the power of formal structures cuz theyre used to playing already well understood stuff

Im genuinely confused who the Front Mission 3 remake is for - just old people with bad tastes who comment on "hire this man" type vids? I feel like younger players would vastly prefer the original's visuals cuz theyre stylish and unique

It's honestly funny how every conversation around "what is truly the value of videogames to society as an art form" acts as if the only two types of videogames to exist are Call of Duty and Disco Elysium

BS F-Zero Deluxe has also been updated to version 1.1 to include the original data from this one!

Everyone knows 'Close your eyes. Close your head' from Visionnerz but did you know, the opera singing near the end says

Non credere a ciò che vedi......Non credere ai tuoi occhi, la verità è altrove

or

Don't believe what you see. Don't believe your eyes, the truth is elsewhere
