One of my students is having trouble submitting her GRFP because the submission site is not recognizing her Intellectual Merit and Broader Impacts sub-headings. Has anyone else run into this problem and found a solution? It doesn't seem to be a font face issue.

Would any fluent speakers of Korean or Chinese have a couple of minutes to review some updated pkgdown translations at github.com/r-lib/pkgdow... ? These were generated by claude code, so they're probably ok, but I'd love a human to double check.

I want to highlight this excellent piece by @noupside.bsky.social and @rachelkleinfeld.bsky.social on the rapidly shifting information & media landscape. Domain experts and the institutions that support them must rapidly change tactics to meet the moment.
For Expertise to Matter, Nonpartisan Institutions Need New Communications Strategies
To avoid irrelevance when they are needed most, experts and nonpartisan analysts must rethink not just their channels of communication but also their theory of influence.

@acollierastro.bsky.social Really enjoying your latest video! I've never gone spelunking in your comments sections before, was wild to find out about about the anti-physics posts that miss the point of your videos. Do you think some of them are bots or people commenting based on title alone?

I published a video focused on my perspective on the 1.5°C temperature target and what it will mean to exceed it. This monologue is an honest (and unvarnished) scientifically-informed personal reflection, so I hope you'll give it a listen. #ClimateChange www.youtube.com/watc...
Thoughts from a climate scientist on what it means to exceed the 1.5°C global warming target
In 2015, global nations pledged to take actions to limit global warming to 1.5°C (2.7°F) above the pre-industrial baseline temperature in what has come to be known as the "Paris Agreement." In 2023 and 2024, global temperatures approached or even exceeded that warming target on a temporary basis--an

New #Rstats package for working with #mgcv! `VizSeasonalGams` streamlines the process of exploring model predictions across categorical predictors and comparing the effects of modelling choices. The package automates the process of producing `facet_grid`- and `facet_wrap`-like figures from models.

Today's #Rstats tip / reminder-to-self: when doing package dev and trying to track down a missing prefix, `[^:]` is regex for "not a colon". So searching for `[^:]mutate` finds all mutate calls in a script that don't have a :: prefix.

This is my weekly reminder to myself that `setdiff()` and `intersect()` exist in #Rstats. I consistently forget them, write convoluted code to recreate them, and then rediscover that they exist. Hopefully this is a useful PSA; more hopefully this will help me remember these functions next week.
