I’m honestly shocked that this story from @globalnews.ca has flown under the radar. Confirmation that Amit Shah, the second-most powerful man in the Indian government, was directly involved in the assassinations on Canadian soil. globalnews.ca/news/1151469...

americans just catching on to the fact that like 8 companies own all of canada
something I hadn't really grappled with until this morning is that the Blue Jays are owned by the company that broadcasts the World Series in Canada & that said company advertises said fact during the games (which serves as both an ad and disclosure, I guess)

to be fair there is a large number of "major streets" (photo) that currently have huge swaths of areas that preclude retail permissions, so while I'm super disappointed to see these councillors strike the interior neighbourhood aspect, it could still be a substantial change in our very large city

Doug Ford wants to end security of tenure - Allowing landlords to evict people at will "lease... expiry that could allow landlords to control who occupies their units and for how long, allowing them to adjust tenancy arrangements based on market conditions, personal needs, or business strategies"

this is insane and will lead to many more unhoused people

Remarkable document: hundreds of European politicians are calling to mobilize European resources to protect the Sumud aid flotilla as it faces escalating attacks on its way to Gaza.

In other words: European politicians are trying to protect humanitarian volunteers *from Israel.*

It's very hard for me to tell right now how "real" the boycott of Disney+ is in terms of impact. I've seen people claiming Disney's site was down at the same time I could pretty easily access it. But I'm hopeful that it might pick up enough steam and a strong enough narrative to matter.

liberals side with fascism is history 101 lol - they’d rather enable or deny or pretend to underestimate the slants of people they otherwise agree with instead of ceding power to workers, “socialists” and people that may threaten property rights and interests of the wealthy
I genuinely cannot believe that Ezra Klein said we should run pro-life candidates in Kansas, Ohio, and Missouri; three states that recently held abortion referendums where the pro-choice side won!

argument urbanists are making is that parking should be more expensive so that only house owners can afford it as a solution to prevent apartment dwellers that are already spending heavily on housing in comparison lol, I think parking is subsidized but maybe it should cost more for low density only?
It's now common that residents of new developments be excluded from applying for on-street parking. I understand this is as a path to appease local NIMBYs but it strikes me as horribly unfair. Granting more special privileges to wealthy homeowners.

Bernie Sanders finally uses the word genocide to describe Israels assault on the Palestinian people. It's taken enormous pressure to get him there.

The use of the word matters.

Yes, the war in Gaza is a genocide.

I hope you’ll take a moment to read my op-ed here:
It Is Genocide » Senator Bernie Sanders
Hamas, a terrorist organization, began this war with its brutal attack on October 7, 2023, which killed 1,200 innocent people and took 250 hostages. Israel, as any other country, had a right to defend...
