This is an amazing use of language. It's basically calling for a serious downgrading of people's pension rights while selling it as positive innovation. No mention of the potential deficit in people's eventual pension levels. Rather than an umbrella, they should have put lipstick on the pig!!

@rethinkingjames.bsky.social interesting discussion of polycrisis on your podcast - absolutely spot on. But until folk actually spend time understanding complexity, and preferably processual complexity it will become a fairly unhelpful metaphor. The revolution you discuss can't happen until

And with indifference from Labour concerning HE, and the threat of Reform in the wings, the UK is not too far behind. Amazing how countries seem more than willing to throw the advantage to China in the global research stakes.

Listening to Farage's speech today - a carbon copy of Trump's approach before the last presidential election. Saddening that so many will be taken in by it. He's even got a version of DOGE going - because it's been so successful in the USA!!

It's pleasing to see that Durham have followed Lincolnshire and under Reform political leadership have cancelled climate change. If the whole country had the guts to do this, we could burn as much coal as we like and everything would be tickety-boo.
May 21, 2025 at 8:47 PM
Another example of woke science. You should move to Lincolnshire, UK where Reform have cancelled climate change. We don't need to worry about it anymore. I'm sure their response to this would be to 'drill baby drill'. It's very liberating when you realise that reality is just what you imagine to be.

#wato just stop the interview. This is shocking don't give this oxygen. You're legitimising this malignant fantasist.

Fascinating talk by Andy Clark on YouTube exploring the dual nature of human perception in prediction and sensory perception. Where predictive models are stronger they can lead to sensory shifts - wonder if there's any way of showing if constantly telling children about the restrictions of cognitive

What is the point of Robert Peston's comments on @itvnews.bsky.social? If the government hadn't agreed a deal he would have been saying that they were letting the car and steel industries collapse. And the fact our position was better before Trump is a simple and blatantly obvious truism!!

I feel very fortunate to live in Lincolnshire. Since the council results, Farage, Tice and Jenkyns have made it clear that global warming will no longer impact on the coastal, fen and low lying areas of the county. They're bringing positive change already stating that under them such flooding will

So it appears that not only are Reform.and the Conservatives going to try to capture the support of a maximum of 30% of the population, Labour are going to join them. Nigel Farage is the black hole of British politics and everyone else seems happy to play along.

Narcissistic leaders have to take all the credit for success - meanwhile failure is always the responsibility of someone else!!

The defunct neoliberal system which has and is causing harm to societies is a breeding ground for a certain type of politician!!
May 3, 2025 at 8:46 AM
Staggeringly obvious from interviews today - Reform has no clue as to what it wants to do. It's promised so many contradictory things to do many people that it has a completely incoherent position. Will be painful to see what happens in counties which have voted them in.

Currently writing about narcissistic leadership. So many 'yes, seeing that' moments in relation to US politics it's scary. The big silver lining is that narcissistic leaders are initially popular due to their energy and confidence.

Have been thinking about indicators of class the last few days. Is the question 'what is this called?' a good proxy? Middle class = lounge or sitting room, working class = front room 🤔

Have had a chaffinch taking an interest in the front room window the last day or so!! Noisy but beautiful.

From economic instability, through a desired resortification of Gaza, to the complete mishandling of the Ukraine-Russia conflict, Donald Trump has shown himself to be inept, uninformed, narcissistic and generally incoherent. And yet some people still laud him as a genius - totally unfathomable.
April 23, 2025 at 9:09 PM
Nigel Farage should be asked about this every time he appears in the media, but no doubt @bbcnewsuk.bsky.social will be under strict orders to neither question him about tricky issues nor mention Brexit. www.theguardian.com/science/2025...

Why does our media continue to treat Trump as if he's an economic genius, as if he's got a hidden plan that will only emerge to mere mortals over time. He's surrounded himself with tech bros who believe in 'move fast and break things' and he's been bankrupted 6 times!!! There's no hidden genius.

This is why some countries are being taken over by autocrats bankrolled by the super-wealthy. They're not daft.
