🇪🇸 RTVE has been warned by the EBU not to refer to Gaza in their #Eurovision 2025 broadcast, after commentators cited casualty figures during Thursday's semi-final.

The Spanish public broadcaster "may incur punitive fines" if these statements are repeated.

It is very funny that NYT let noted trade columnist Paul Krugman walk like six months ago or whatever because he wanted to produce too much trade content for their taste

I may regret saying this, but I'm still hopeful that the Gaza ceasefire will hold. Trump's plans for Gaza notwithstanding (and they are a huge huge complicating factor), I don't think he wants war in the Middle East on his watch. His *whole* shtick is about ending wars

Benjamin Netanyahu has failed to dispatch negotiators to Doha for discussions on the Gaza ceasefire's second phase. The agreement mandates negotiations begin by today – the 16th day of phase one. And he’s arrived in Washington with a barely disguised desire to resume the war in Gaza

I'm late to this, but this piece is excellent on a curiosity of mine: despite all the warnings of Trump's "threat to democracy", the media has not just fallen silent on this since his election, but is proceeding as if US democracy will simply continue coreyrobin.com/2024/12/14/t...

On that #exitpoll don’t forget that while numbers look similar to the last general election, many haven’t factored in sf with more candidates to mop up those surpluses. Down 3.8% from last time but they left seats on the board then. Will also impact smaller parties who benefited then but now? #ge24

Just in case the Israel/Hezbollah ceasefire made you think things were trending toward peace, things have taken a turn in Syria. Rebel forces, some of which are backed by Turkey, have shelled Aleppo and are engaging in the worst fighting in years, with reports of 250 dead

The resolution to boycott Haaretz which passed in today's gov meeting without legal review is another step in Netanyahu's journey to dismantle democracy. Like his friends Putin, Erdoğan & Orbán, Netanyahu is trying to silence critical, independent media. Haaretz will not balk

Not the first to make this point, but the West has repeatedly crossed supposed Russian “red lines” on Ukraine and there haven’t been any consequences. Both Kyiv and the West see Putin as a bit of a bluffer
