This is an extension of what I wrote earlier this month: if the Gaza ceasefire lasts, it will be because of Trump. It's not clear to me that his plans for Gaza contradict his desire to not have wars raging while he is US president www.rte.ie/news/world/2...

While attention is naturally focused on events in the Middle East, the key to the Gaza ceasefire's survival almost certainly still lies in Washington, writes Deputy Foreign Editor Edmund Heaphy.

Thankfully his envoy toured the Middle East this past week, including Saudi Arabia… and it sounds like Trump is still committed to the three-phase ceasefire deal. But we’ll know where Trump truly stands tomorrow once he meets with Netanyahu. My analysis for @news.rte.ie www.rte.ie/news/world/2...

Everyone is naturally focused on tit-for-tat stuff between Israel and Hamas, but the key to this deal's survival almost certainly lies in Washington. It was Trump’s threats and his brash Middle East envoy that got the deal over the line in mid-January

It's the first opposition attack in Aleppo since 2016. The dynamics in Syria are highly highly complex (to put it lightly) – but of note is Hezbollah's role. They've been v critical over the years in defeating rebels on behalf of Assad's regime (as has Iran and Russia)
