While attention is naturally focused on events in the Middle East, the key to the Gaza ceasefire's survival almost certainly still lies in Washington, writes Deputy Foreign Editor Edmund Heaphy.

Thankfully his envoy toured the Middle East this past week, including Saudi Arabia… and it sounds like Trump is still committed to the three-phase ceasefire deal. But we’ll know where Trump truly stands tomorrow once he meets with Netanyahu. My analysis for @news.rte.ie www.rte.ie/news/world/2...

It's the first opposition attack in Aleppo since 2016. The dynamics in Syria are highly highly complex (to put it lightly) – but of note is Hezbollah's role. They've been v critical over the years in defeating rebels on behalf of Assad's regime (as has Iran and Russia)
