"I'm going to try turning off follower-only replies" reader, I lasted like five days
and, of course: that reply was from somebody Not From Around Here

Much like, at the time, medical transcriptionists and coders were working *for* the API. So were Uber drivers.
@vgr.bsky.social coined this, and I think it’s going to get worse. The AIs have moved up.

Nothing ever went totally wrong making the vacuum enter an unconstrained space eight miles from the dust source
PROUDLY MADE IN THE USA though

A mildly annoying print thing — I had to rework the design of the front of this (nominally the same product) for the “pro” one in order to avoid shitty prints. The 45-degree overhang gets sad when printing the high-stiffness TPU used to make the pro one so ridiculously tough

Now that I have a much bigger dust collector it is kinda moot, but the DW735 has its own fan and that helps a lot with smaller setups. (Also pictured: “cordless mode” and a needs-work magnetic connector that is screaming out for some ESD filament)

somehow some people think Laguna makes tools in the USA, but here’s their (free, high level) importgenius top-suppliers list vs Grizzly

they have a new one? AFAIK their planer is the same one everyone else who is <$1000 and isn’t DeWalt has, plus or minus whatever options they picked at The One Factory That Makes Planers
The Bauer one is just the same planer with a two-blade cutter head and a cheaper version of the same body

not anymore tbh. Hercules and Bauer are no worse than the homeowner Ryobis folks recommend to casuals and are built pretty alright in TYOOL 2025. Most of their lawn stuff is fine though not professional-level, and there’s a reason I have a wall of Bremen parallel clamps instead of Bessey/Jorg

this is me hitting it pretty hard at the absolute weakest point (which is the part that actually braces against a dust guard and is locked statically to it so it should never be the breaking point)
you can see the layers just do not separate

well, somebody finally succeeded at breaking one of the dust shrouds.
by removing it at least 30 times (it's designed to not get in the way so you never have to remove it at all) and somehow over-cranking the clamp so hard that it ripped it out of the mount walls
I call this a W, tbh

I got to my office and went to a different floor today because I’m adventurous. Went over to their sad quasi-cantina, looked up, and said:
