Yet another show I'll have to look for in rerun form. Thanks for sharing your criticisms as usual.

Also, did you notice that Maddie Rice, the SNL Band electric guitarist, was made musical director this season? And she was only there since 46.

I ask a 2nd time since you may have missed the first.

I'd like to see them go back to the experimental feel of previous episodes and use some of the lesser shown cast, but for the time being, I'll take the night for what it is and be glad they managed three solid/good episodes in a row, cobbling together new and old eras. Roll on Melissa McCarthy. #SNL

Final: The highs weren't as high as Poehler or Glaser, but this was a very solid show, which the season needed. Glen was a likeable host - a tad underused, but none of the hot host roles or smugness I had feared. He did seem genuine in just wanting to be there and brought a fortifying energy. #SNL

Macgruber #3: Didn't really need this - nothing to say and felt like they knew it had nothing to say. Still, not bad enough to bring the episode down. #SNL

Hair: I wonder if this is another Ashley trunk piece from the Groundlings. I like that they let her play a beat of dread before she sat down. Ashley being so willing to tap fully into despair and delusion helped make this sing. The ending being the opposite of Kenan Reacts added a certain fun. #SNL

MG: Olivia Dean has such a calming presence, and her songs remind me of some of the smooth '80s artists - a more current version of a Billy Ocean or a Sade. #SNL

Macgruber #2: I was hoping this would be a one-off, but the continuation had a few fun moments, like ranting Forte and the moment where he was so desperate to destroy everything he started hitting the bomb against the wall. #SNL

Andrew Is Kyle Mooney in The Cucking Story: Basically just a remake of the Jason Mamoa sketch. Not much to say here - we've seen this so many times and even if I enjoy the stupid anti-ending Andrew does here, this was too long and felt a little self-indulgent. #SNL

Update #2: I like the pattern the last few weeks of shorter cold opens and Updates. I was hoping Jeremy would get on but I'll take no guests over what we probably would have had. #SNL

The Legacy of James Anderson: Hello, Andrew! My hopes faded once I saw that this was going to be camp-n-vamp with Sarah and Bowen, but the slow inclusion of the full cast, plus a good energy level, made this more palatable. I also had a good laugh at how Kill Tony would feel about Kam in this. #SNL

Swedish film: This reminds me of some mid/late '00s sketches, especially Seth and Scarjo in season 31 cheating on a bedridden husband. Much better use of Chloe than usual, Glen's in good form, and later, JAJ and Jeremy (typecast already in strange child roles). Iffy ending but fine. #SNL

Host: Melissa McCarthy! I didn't think she'd ever host again. Her episodes were always very uneven, but she brings a great deal of energy every time. #SNL

Chloe's Jennifer Coolidge being shoehorned in tells you about how little the show has left to do with her. I will say this was one of the better uses of the impression - brought in very quickly for a laugh to close out the sketch. #SNL

Marcello Vamp Slot: I guess this was for the fans who thought the show was suppressing Marcello in favor of Andrew (who has not been on as of yet). If I knew anything about
Sebastian Maniscalco I might enjoy this more. As I don't, I just saw a lot of gunk. JAJ was fine in his small role. #SNL

I Miss SNL's Pre-Tape Editors: Tommy must be getting some great audience feedback to be getting a big part in one of these musical sketches so early. Glen had some good moments (and he looked so much like William Hurt), but I zoned out of this as it went on and on. #SNL

AI photos: One of the better leadoff sketches this season, helped by a creative premise and a good performance from Ashley, especially her yelps of horror at what happened to her baby photo. It was nice to hear the audience waking up with the crass Mikey no-nuts reveal. #SNL

Monologue: A somewhat labored monologue about how Glen almost hosted in 2021 (the ill-fated Omicron Christmas), but Glen's mix of slickness and charm was put to good effect. I appreciate hearing such detailed behind the scenes info. That was for the hardcore fans! #SNL

Cold open: Well, after a fairly light week for Ashley last week she gets a good part right off the bat. Feels like a while since we got a press secretary cold open. I did not miss them, but Ashley is doing a good job as Leavitt, especially how extremely childish and nasty she is. #SNL
