That's a "No"

Doing the job of an economist in the White House is often:

1) to say unwelcome, true things in private, and
2) refusing to say welcome, untrue things in public.

Hassett is failing at 2.

He is doing the job of an ideologue, not an economist.
WELKER: Does the administration have any evidence that the jobs numbers were rigged?

HASSETT: The evidence is that there have been a bunch of revisions

WELKER: But hard evidence?

HASSETT: The revisions are hard evidence

(They are not "hard evidence")

Not surprised, but holy cow! @aaronsojourner.org: the BLS has been trustworthy, as you have been emphasizing, and POTUS is now eager to change that. He's definitely a "shoot the messenger" kinda guy!
President Donald Trump on Friday called for the firing of the head of the agency that produces the monthly jobs figures after a report showed hiring slowed in July and was much weaker in May and June than previously reported. buff.ly/ZrENwCe

Slow jobs gains in July, dramatic downward revisions to the May and June numbers, ticking up of long-term unemployed, dropping labor force participation over the year-to-date ... chickens coming home to roost. (And public sector job loss probably still understated.)

What do we want? A minimum tax on the super-rich
When do we want it? Now!

It was a pleasure to give this short introductory remarks for the International Tax Reform Summit that takes place in Johannesburg today

Good read. Another lesson on the importance of critical thinking (and reading) skills and why they are a threat to the those seeking to dominate through "force and fear."

Processing last week's job report. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/07/b... Good graphic of total job gains after the pandemic pre/post revisions. Quote about expulsion of immigrants balancing slowdown in labor demand seems so bad, though: even if it stops decline in wages, consumption still drops.
Job Growth Slowed in January, but Overall Picture Remains Solid
U.S. employers added 143,000 jobs last month, somewhat fewer than forecast, while unemployment fell to 4 percent and hourly earnings rose.

Quick question: if you drastically cut the workforce at the largest employer (gov't employment is historically low ~13.5% of labor force) & cut a major expenditure stream (overall R&D expenditures ~3.5% of GDP, with gov't a significant funder), how do you not trigger a #recession?
