There is a lot of momentum in @greenparty.org.uk - as I have said before - if they could shift their position on utilitarianism to more like the #Swedish green party - i think their movement could grow further - particularly on farming, fishing and other #animal use

I have never been brilliant at maths..but... I am good at geography and waterfowl and I am fairly sure this is wrong... still close enough i suppose @parliamentarygoose.bsky.social

My bias is towards sharing effects of #pets and disturbance on #wildlife - but 1 Billion #birds a year killed by #building collisions, #roads and transport by far biggest killer or terrestrial (wild) vertebrates in Europe - we could deal with them

Here again Dogs and their effects on wildlife and livestock came up again where we concluded "Enhanced access to nature for people cannot also mean a broader presence of dogs beyond their owner’s control". Free roaming pets in the UK do cause ecological damage - will society deal with this? /5

Reading on public access and nature - on several occasions barriers to children in getting outside, camping, cooking outdoors and learning about respect are highlighted... #Scouting volunteers have been delivering this for over 100 years - it runs on volunteers so stop lamenting and step up!

Also - and I would love you and others to step in here and help my basic maths... I am looking at this against the complaint of 20K hours of fishing in the UK MPA network (338MPAs) /1

However the ocean is bigger and on a planetary scale likely more important - it does produce 50% of the worlds Oxygen BUT..... not 50% of the oxygen you breathe as the Oceans also USE 50% of the worlds available oxygen - were that balance to tip and it use more than it produced - EEK! /5

If we explore the data - and marine data is not easy - Freshwater and Terrestrial systems are in much stronger rates of decline (-37%, -25%) than Marine (-22%) - note in temperate marine systems the rate is +50% - so compared to elsewhere it is doing better than ok /4

Its literally all around us, we know that 64% of England is farmed - that means it is highly modified from its natural state (even when green a pleasant) and all the animals and plants that used to live on it are gone.... semi-permanently (credit NatGeo) /3

How we achieve something matters - or at least it does to me - and there are some interesting issues at play in this debate - one is the idea stated by Sir David that if this level of activity was occurring on land their would be an outcry - WELL THEIR IS! /2

I am currently chewing on the current Ocean campaigns, and the plan to remove bottom towed gear in all Marine Protected Areas - I think this is sensible in the main but we would have to review inshore MPAs that may have been co-designed with coastal communities /1
