“Admiting the problem is the first step.”

Which, you would think, communicates rather clearly, that there are other steps that should follow that…

Got my Kindle up and working again, looking forward to FINALLY reading Alys and Changeling by the lovely @kiricallaghan.com ! She also has a new book coming out soonish, The Hearth Witch's Guide to Magic & Murder. With a title like that, you should go take a look to learn more! 😉

Today is my birthday! As silly as it sounds, it would mean so much to me if you preordered my cozy modern fantasy inpired by Sherlock Holmes.

Preorders are important because they count toward that first week of sales.

Man, it's really easy to forget about Bluesky when the app doesn't work on your phone, so you can only check it on your laptop. 😅

Don't trust "AI" and also realize that the push to have "AI" in everything happened because some tech people wanted to get rich and other tech people didn't want others to get rich without them, and now they've all spent too much money on a bad product and are trying to scramble out of the hole.
Columbia Journalism Review tested eight generative AI search tools and found their answers were wrong 60% of the time, and the paid ones actually fared worse than the free ones.

Meanwhile, millions of people trust the way they present total bullshit with confident language.
AI search engines cite incorrect sources at an alarming 60% rate, study says
CJR study shows AI search services misinform users and ignore publisher exclusion requests.

My heart breaks a little every time I see someone say “that kind of make-up” or “that color” is not for adults.
My poor friend, when did you let them convince you grew out of joy?

I know a lot of people are boycotting Amazon, which is great, but it's hurting a lot of trans authors.

Trans authors: Drop links to your NON-AMAZON book listings/storefronts.

Cis people: Repost, boost, and, importantly, buy. Part of boycotting an evil corporation is supporting the alternatives.

Artists need to let this sink in:

The thousands of followers who insist you stay there are actively hurting you at this point. You deserve a better audience who understands your rights and concerns. The sooner you rebuild, the easier it gets.

It might hurt my bottom line, but I’m probably going to stop posting art to Twitter entirely and I suggest you do too.

Not only is the site actively putting a “Okay, now remix this” button below art (and elevating them above the OP with a QRT) and it’s false flagging original art as made by AI.

It already felt like it leaned right hen you make your first account anyway; I know I had to train my algorithm out of it when I made my secondary account. So I'm not surprised by this in the slightest. 😩
Oh I KNOW tiktok is fucked up now. I opened the app and the first video that comes up on my fyp is The Ch*rlie K*rk show, a show I have never watched hosted by someone I despise. The algorithm is actually pushing right wing bs at me now

She's got a fair point. We keep viewing people in Black and White, which harms our abilities to really SEE people.
Let's be clear.
He did horrible things.
He also wrote some wonderful things.
He did horrible fucking things.
He is also human.
Dehumanizing predators, & pretending they are incapable of creating anything good gives us false comfort that they are easy to spot and surely you'd know if you knew one.
