Seriously? Is that where we are?

Translation: Things were better when I was 11.

Agree... but, sadly, entertainment + spectacle seems to attract more money than elite skill in combat sports these days.

Depends how you look at it... he's making a ton of cash.

I once read a travel review that went something like, "With its bustling nightlife, illuminated skyline and constant hum of traffic, New York truly is the Big Apple."

I assume they meant to say, "... truly is the city that never sleeps". But I'm glad the sub left it. Still chuckle about it now.

Thank God Saville wasn't arsed about football... there is a clip of a young Peter Stringfellow in a Leeds kit celebrating the 1972 Cup win, but that might have just been DJ ingratiation.

Good grief.... good question, though: who is our "worst" fan?

"We really want Florian Wirtz, but we know that one will be hard to get over the line..."

He got into a spat with former LBC host Sangita Myska when she referenced Robbie Gibb's role at the Jewish Chronicle... predictably, he thought that was a racist dog-whistle rather than perfectly legitimate criticism of a paper with a mountain of ethics violations.

I look forward to the TV rights bonanza collapsing... we may stand a chance of getting our game back.

Wilbur Cush next to Jack, I think...

Bit like Britpop in that it hoovered up/took credit for culturally adjacent stuff happening elsewhere… Japan, Duran Duran, Soft Cell, etc.

Seemed to be a very bitchy, self-promotional scene… everyone trying to be famous, everyone else resenting everyone’s efforts to be famous and, ultimately, everyone succeeding to be famous through sheer dogged perseverance.

I like a lot of the music that inspired/coalesced around Billy’s/The Blitz, but I’m pretty sure I’d’ve hated *everyone* in that scene…!!

That's my issue. The more we play, the less potent and cohesive we look...

I get why he's doing it... explaining away "the noise" to both the players and the owners. But "emotion" is perhaps the most powerful tool this club has. He should be looking to harness it, not dilute or qualify it.

The attacking stuff he has a point, imo... but you still have to shape a team that's hard to break down out of possession. With 3 hard-working CMs, our propensity for shipping soft goals is inexcusable.

Equally, it provides a sequence of games to work on things without the pressure for results?

He's describing passion. Every fanbase is, with varying degrees of intensity, impatient, entitled, euphoric, unreasonable, deluded, fatalistic, bipolar, resigned, disengaged... what else can someone following a pursuit over which they have no control be? It's a daft observation.

We could and probably should... but judging by the YEP, we're sticking with him for now.
