Confiscating jewellery from survivors of a war zone makes you look like a fucking Nazi. And the obscene thing is, that is the intention. It's there to look appropriately harsh. Indecent. Filthy. A moral stain. And no-one of good character would have ever proposed such a thing in the first place.

To be fair, you shouldn't even have to compare yourselves with the Nazis to know that nicking valuables off desperate asylum seekers is morally bankrupt...

I think the underlying issue is not that the UK has an asylum challenge but that the UK needs a new public enemy now Brussels is no longer available for the role.

Migrants/asylum seekers/non-white people in general have become the convenient new "enemy" for most politicians and media outlets.
