It was so great joining you, Alexa and Leslie, on TechSequences discussing our recent work on early detection of signs of dementia using ambient intelligence.
Can AI help detect Alzheimer's or other dementia, with more time for successful intervention? Join cohosts @alexaraad.bsky.social and @lesliedaigle.bsky.social as they discuss that question with guest Ehsan Adeli ( @eadeli.bsky.social ).

It was great having @stanfordhai.bsky.social's @drfeifei.bsky.social in my class today (aimedv.stanford.edu)! We had an insightful conversation about generative AI, spatial intelligence, & healthcare, all thoughtfully wrapped around discussions of ethics, human-centered design, & real-world impact.

My #NIH review panel meeting got cancelled less than 24 hours before its meeting start. So crazy! I spent days to review my batch of 8 full proposals (R01)! Poor investigators whose grant proposals were being reviewed in the panel and many other panels cancelled in the past month!

I keep thinking about the campaign slogan "We Are Not Going Back," which I didn't like....but it turned out to be prescient.
As in Orwellian 1984.
A tough road ahead to get us back on track. But we will.

Great analysis of the indirect cost rate announcement by @stuartbuck.bsky.social
Indirect Costs at NIH . . .
I wasn’t planning on spending part of a Saturday writing about cost accounting principles and the like, but NIH-world was hit with a doozy of a policy announcement on Friday night:

What tech company will be the first to stand up and say that gutting the NSF is bad actually?

The economic argument seems pretty clear

Less NSF --> fewer PhD students --> fewer researchers --> smaller AI tech pipeline --> slower progress --> less competitive globally

#KostasThoughts: As an AC, it’s frustrating when reviewers only see the rebuttal through the lens of their own review. Step back—consider all reviews and discussions. DON’T rush to finalize; see the FULL picture!
LOVE a #CVPR2025 paper but facing pushback from the other reviewers? CHAMPION IT!

Make a strong case in your discussions and your “justification of rating”—fight for the papers that deserve it! Don’t be swayed by being in the minority in the face of weak arguments.

Their greed is our opportunity.
