I have hard time shaking how uncannily recognizable it all is if you saw, say, conservative talk radio or creationism up close. The hypocrisy and pretense-of-belief--that we were only opposed to it when it was someone else doing it--also feels disturbingly recognizable.

IIRC Alex Jones used a similar take in a deposition--he made false claims because the media lies so much he didn't know what was true anymore.

Functionally, I don't know if you've given up conspiracy theories in a meaningful way if you're intentionally holding on to the exact same villains.

You know, I hadn't thought about the fact this means you can glamour weapons between classes, not just armor.

Who is the human, or alternatively, traditionally animated character in Muppet Eva?

I still say there are no wrong answers (for Eva or any other Muppetized anime), only funny and funnier answers.

Step 1: We're the only ones who correctly understand this text and aren't mucking it up with some weird reading that tells us what we want to hear.

Step 2: it turns out that it says whatever we happen to believe at the moment, because otherwise why would we believe that?

I don't think everyone who uses "gerontocracy" is operating in bad faith, but I'm pretty convinced at this point that someone upstream from where they're getting news and commentary is (mainly, to hide sympathies that a more specific criticism naming names would reveal).

Here's the second post, about what factors help make or break momentum for a regular game night: travelcheck.dylanwolf.com/p/momentum-m...
Momentum: Make-or-break factors
Pay attention to the factors that can bog down a game night, and switch course when you see them.

It would be very funny if this is the case, because Roko's Basilisk always seemed like a knock-off version of the same scary idea of God that has hurt people in certain types of evangelical churches. Closing the loop is just the most ridiculous thing that could happen.

If you've already been through the cycle a time or two, there's extra anxiety over how some "people I agree with" might be showing the same patterns that put "people I'm opposed to" in that category.

I don't block on it, but there's a whole genre of "using a more general word when a more specific word would lead to better analysis" in that area. It really stands out once you notice it.

I had some friends who went down a pro-2A rabbit hole and when I'd write out a point-by-point reply to their Facebook posts I'd get the equivalent of "lol, no."

At some point you'd just have to forcibly remove from your brain some firsthand experience or lesson a trustworthy source taught you.

I don't think you can check your own accuracy and intentions at the same time you're creating/performing that sort of certainty, and the former feels like a more responsible long-term trade-off.

But it's tough when it feels like no amount of receipts can counter someone else's half-considered claim
