In 2021, I had hoped to hold a journalism panel in New Orleans about Hurricane Katrina. COVID had other plans and we wound up doing it virtually. I'm glad we did, because now I can share it with you.

Wow, thanks for sharing! FWIW, my read is that Mississippi's broad age verification law isn't long for this world. Here's what Justice Kavanaugh wrote as the Supreme Court denied to hear the case this term.

Justice Kavanaugh hinted strongly that he would. My guess is at least one other conservative would join him, and that would be enough. But it will take a new petition and that will take some time.

Attn #aejmc25 -- the Pistahan Parade and Festival is happening right outside our doors!

My #aejmc25 is backloaded, so I did the sightseeing today!

Highly recommend Golden Gate Park (though a music festival will make getting there tougher this weekend).

Alternative: If you prefer your art museums quality over quantity, Legion of Honor is fantastic.

My niche Hulk Hogan memoriam: As a media law professor, few cases engaged my students like Bollea v. Gawker. It was controversial. Bizarre. An important test of our legal protections and professional ethics.

It also produced my favorite #McLemoreMemeWar entry of all time.

It's not a coincidence that the "father of public relations" was a war propagandist

Everything is PR.
Including (perhaps especially) war.

My friend, Angela, describes the scene at the USDA Agricultural Research Service after haphazard "efficiency" cuts hit her office, including her own termination from a position that saved taxpayers more than her meager salary.

As the AP rightly asserts, it serves an international audience. Its guidance regarding "Gulf of Mexico / Gulf of America" was grounded in that global scope.

The AP's rationale is sound. But even it were absurd, the government can't punish them for a disagreeable word choice.

Google Maps has updated to Gulf of America. Outside of the United States, it's labeled Gulf of Mexico, with Gulf of America in parentheses. (Accessed via VPN)

The Huffington Post stands out, right? "See, they included a famously lefty outlet!"

Yeah, one that doesn't even have a Pentagon correspondent. Smoke and mirrors to justify the three loyalist media outlets.

Such a simple but thoughtful act of care from the Skating Club of Boston. A pronunciation guide ensures journalists and other mass communicators get their names right without having to contact grieving people to confirm.

The National Weather Service has adopted "Gulf of America."

Interested to see how official sources will influence journalistic usage. It's going to be hard to avoid, especially in weather coverage. If you're irritated by reading "X, formerly known as Twitter," brace yourselves.

Stunning image of the Eaton Fire approaching Mt. Wilson, home to most broadcast transmission towers serving Los Angeles. Over-the-air audiences rely on those signals to receive local news coverage.

Comparing Pop-Tarts brand boost to any other bowl sponsor - even the big $$$ playoff/NY6 ones - is thinking too small.

This is the best brand sponsorship in sports since... ???

When I was at Alabama, spring classes did not begin until after the national championship game, with the assumption the Tide would be in it.
