Some guy randomly found the original handwritten screenplay for Ann Hui's Boat People. Writer Chiu Kang-chien's original Chinese title was literally 'Boat People', but this was changed to 'Seeking Refuge to the Angry Sea' at the suggestion of wuxia novelist Jin Yong.

More Milkyway Image coming soon from Chameleon Films: Johnnie To's much demanded A Hero Never Dies and Soi Cheang's paranoid thriller Accident. Both releases have been in the works for a while now with A Hero Never Dies even undergoing a digital restoration. New subtitles by me as well.

Every time I watch Hard Boiled I'm like, "Hey, it's that bit from Infernal Affairs!" during the Tony Leung and Philip Chan rooftop scene even though I know Hard Boiled came first and have seen it so many more times than Infernal Affairs.

RIP Stanley Fung
One of his final Facebook posts was on the passing of Benz Hui:
'...Alas, we all part ways someday, but I am older than you, myself terminally ill and on my last legs... Wait for me on the other side, young brother. Your unworthy elder brother is close behind!'

Privileged to be on the first of the Golden Princess catalogue to hit the UK, Ringo Lam's seminal City on Fire. The booklet features a piece where I detail Lam's personal and professional journey up to that point while also getting into what exactly Golden Princess are. (I also redid the subtitles)

Seeing this photo do the rounds today: Wong Kar-wai's Mong Kok House on Fire commencing production in 1993, a movie meant to wrap in two months. The cast included Lau Ching-wan who has otherwise not worked with Wong. Supposedly inspired by Kinji Fukusaku's House on Fire (1986).

An unknown screenwriter going by Guer claims they're the real writer of Blossoms Shanghai, accusing Wong Kar-wai and writer Qin Wen of exploitation and bullying, even posting audio recordings as proof. It's gotten so bad the production issued a statement about respecting the rights of creators.

Turns out Wong Kar-wai was an assistant director on Five Easy Pieces (1980), the first HK TV series to be axed and an important work in Johnnie To's early directing career (he also designed the opening titles). This means Wong and To were dboth iscovered by star of The Killer Snakes Kam Kwok-leung.

"'In my scenes opposite Hou Hsiao-hsien, even if I'm the only one being filmed, I can't act unless Hou is there, and it won't work even with a stand-in.'
'It's the same for me in my scenes opposite Tsai Chin,' Hou Hsiao-hsien replies, looking at Tsai Chin with a smile."
