If I had a 3-hour conversation with the candidate that I ultimately endorsed, and I didn't figure this out ("I didn't vote for this"), it'd make me wonder if I was good at my job as an interviewer? + Plenty of people knew this from Trump's own speeches without any interview access. #selfreflection

When a Trump supporter refers to ICE as the “gestapo,” a door has definitely opened. Will Democrats charge through it?

This is an important thing:

"Manufacturing employment has declined every month since what Trump dubbed “Liberation Day” in April, saying his widespread tariffs would begin to rebalance global trade in favor of American workers."

It's one of the saddest realities of today. The person who has been afforded the greatest wealth, incredible access, and unbridled opportunity spends his free time worried about the decline of the "white race" and "white solidarity." He's actively undermining the free society he takes credit for.

In no way, shape, or form, did Americans or our elected representatives vote for this, give budget to this, or ask for this. We need a Congress that will actually impeach a President for this. It's a coup against us and our Constitution. It's time for voters to step up.

Black American soldiers literally dug these WWII graves. Traumatic. To acknowledge that fact at a cemetery they helped construct is something the Heritage Foundation cannot accept. As Veterans Day approaches, never forget that this country both compels and disrespects Black military service. Always.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

The contrast of this with one of the people responsible getting a $1 trillion pay package is too much. What's going on with us? How did we become focused on so few at the expense of so many? EVs existed before Elon and will after Elon. True of rockets. Robots. These people are lost forever though.
One analytical model shows that, as of November 5th, the dismantling of U.S.A.I.D. has already caused the deaths of 600,000 people, two-thirds of them children. https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/jUzNSc

Mamdani won as a Muslim man in NYC 24 years after 9/11. This is an INCREDIBLE story. Against many odds. His approach worked for him. Stop trying to coach him now that he's won. He's not a singular approach that will work for all Dems. We get it. The common wisdom wouldn't have worked for him though.

Soak up the amazing victories tonight!
Thanks to everyone who made every single one of those dreams a reality: collectively you sent a message not just to our entire country, but to the world!

Enjoy, exhale, celebrate- and then tomorrow we all have to get right back to work saving our democracy.

Congratulations to all the Democratic candidates who won tonight. It’s a reminder that when we come together around strong, forward-looking leaders who care about the issues that matter, we can win. We’ve still got plenty of work to do, but the future looks a little bit brighter.

I'm not a regular New Yorker reader and am new to the Isaac Chotiner style of interview, but I'm not a fan. Why does there have to be 1 right opinion that can be expressed? The interview is like some Pyrrhic victory for those that disagree with a woman who has a right to do what she wants.
