For any unfamiliar with the quality of journalism at Teen Vogue, it's well known for hard-hitting stories on "politically sensitive" topics including climate.
Then there's CBS: the only major network to increase climate coverage in the last few years. They just axed nearly their whole climate team.

I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

Doing some reading of 'We Talk, You Listen' (1970, Vine Deloria Jr.) and a lovely, striking thing is how clear and simple it is, in contrast to a lot of modern cultural criticism that is so filled with jargony academic terms you can't grasp the author's point

Here's the thing I don't understand. You can't as much as sneeze near a historic site in Washington without like 14 commissions, councils, and advisory boards giving you the okay. And everybody now is like...yup, fine with us? wtf?

We need to find a way to get the state thinking like both insurers and utilities do, about ruthless assessment against loss reduction. Spending X dollars on grants is not a success. Reducing expected losses by y% is. That’s how we need to measure if we want to make progress.

The current approaches are not focussed nearly enough on reducing the outcomes we don’t want - large loss fires that occur (almost by definition) when firefighting is not going to be effective and so structure and community preparation is the only recipe for success.

Yup. Both the fact that the modeling was “too expensive” and that we also lost the opportunity to lock in zone zero at a subset of existing homes right away instead of in 3 years. Go figure.
