when i encounter folks who assume color identity in edh is meant to uphold the color pie it makes me concerned that there are people who don't think the color pie functions or exists in other formats.
like, there is no color identity in legacy but i'm pretty sure it's not complete and utter chaos.

a while back they standardized a lot of cards with cost reducing effects to have affinity, but sadly, they did not update sea gate colossus to say "affinity for party". 🥳

listen, i can't fix most of the problems in the world. i'm super strong and medium tall but there's just not that much a single person can do to tackle the issues we're facing on a societal level. 💔

arguing that wotc doesn't have any tools to create cards for both of two colors is a bit weird since they literally did just that in shadowmoor, the set where hybrid was most prevalent.
they also make the game, so they can invent new tools that achieve the goal but don't upend 20+ years of edh?

it's impressive how succinctly it nails the core problem with changing hybrid color identity rules from a format diversity standpoint and it absolutely still rings true almost 20 years later.
