Season Preview Pod!

Key questions in part 1:

1. Is Julius Randle's playoff level of play sustainable or was it mostly (rounds 1+2) matchup based?
2. How does Naz Reid live up to his contract on this roster?
3. Can this team return to being a top 3 defense or is the talk more sizzle than steak?

3 TOs, 3 missed FTs, and 1-7 from the floor when the clock ticked under 3 minutes.

Add in 15 missed FTs for the game as a whole, and I’ll pass on taking a “moral victory” lap.

I will not pass on the “Welcome back TJ Shannon!” parade though!

If I’m a ref, and I make a call that causes Mike Conley to react like that, it’s time to hand in my resignation letter.

What’s crazy is the Wolves got a ton of calls that quarter, but the crew also missed a ton.

OKC is an overly physical corner that forces refs to call the game the way they want.
November 27, 2025 at 2:44 AM
Shai clearly pushing Ant in the open floor in front of all the refs and then gets the foul call on the other end.
November 27, 2025 at 2:33 AM
SGA was nowhere near set on that screen. Clark is allowed to exist.

Well, if the Wolves hit their FTs, this is a close game. Margin of error against the Thunder is already so tight, can’t leave points at stripe.

Dillingham isn’t finishing, but he’s been the best player to break down the defense.

Man. Every single Thunder player has a seizure when they experience even light contact.
November 27, 2025 at 1:32 AM
Assuming this challenge could potentially catch the proximate foul of Hartenstein putting his hand on Rudy’s shoulder and pushing off as he jumps to rebound the ball?
November 27, 2025 at 1:25 AM
No Randle or Ant on the floor to start the 2nd… have not been a fan of that becoming the norm lately.

Also, I did not realize that Gobert is the strongest person in the world that even the wind from his arm could knock Hartenstein to the ground.

Also also, call the over the back first.
November 27, 2025 at 1:22 AM
So far Ant is making the right play. The defense is collapsing on him and he’s making a pass that is leading to hockey assists and good shots for his teammates.
November 27, 2025 at 12:56 AM
Would be pretty shocked if we don’t get a good effort from the Wolves tonight. Question is if a good effort is enough to even stay in the game against this OKC juggernaut.
November 27, 2025 at 12:49 AM
In the Chris Finch era, the players that the Wolves drafted with a real shot at playing time are:

1. Josh Minott (2022)
2. Jaylen Clark (2023)
3. Rob Dillingham and TJ Shannon (2024)

All four players flashed moments, but in the tug-of-war of minutes, ultimately have seen their confidence plummet.

Felt this way the whole night when they just weren’t interested in playing hard basketball for more than a couple minutes at a time.
Very little intensity from a Wolves team that wants to coast to a win. Problem is, the Kings have enough individual talent that one player getting hot could steal this one.

If Dillingham’s offense comes around (good reason to suspect it will) the other parts of his game have really improved.

Young guy power rankings in the 1st half:

1. Dillingham
2. Clark
3. TJ Shannon

Felt like the Wolves had found a good defensive lineup for the non-Gobert minutes that involved Clark and McDaniels always being on the floor.

Clearly trying some new things and how they can mix in everyone. But since all three young guys are getting real rotation minutes I won’t complain!
November 25, 2025 at 3:41 AM
TJ Shannon jumping Clark in the rotation is notable - his level of play definitely hasn’t earned it, but would be a lot of fun to see him get on track.

Interested to see how the rotations play out cause no/rare Clark is a mistake for this team.

Six turnovers (2 for the Wolves, 4 for Sacramento) before the first commercial break. Not the sharpest start to the game, but the Wolves did build a 9-2 lead.
November 25, 2025 at 3:20 AM
Sadly, last night was not a bad dream. The Timberwolves did blow an 8pt lead in the final 50 seconds to team being led by Dillon Brooks and Collin Gillespie.

Feel free to commiserate with me as I had to record this one on my own after that loss. It’s not all doom and gloom, but that one hurt.
Game 16: One of the Biggest Gut Punch Losses You'll Have in the Regular Season

That’s as much of a stomach punch loss you can have in the regular season.
November 22, 2025 at 4:43 AM
If Dillon Brooks is falling over in the open court while Mike Conley is running by him and you call an offensive foul, it should be the last game you ever officiate.
November 22, 2025 at 3:56 AM
That feels like a moment Ant needed.

Brooks said all kinds of things after he stopped Randle a few possessions earlier.

He poked the bear.
November 22, 2025 at 3:35 AM
If this game were a boxing match, the Suns have made the Wolves completely submit to their style.

Basically benching Clark and going with Naz over Rudy for the final 5 minutes of the half is a big risk considering they have been the backbone of your defense all season.
November 22, 2025 at 3:17 AM
Dilly lives!!
November 22, 2025 at 3:02 AM
Conley has been completely overmatched in his minutes. No idea why he’s getting a full stint while Finch cut Clark’s.
November 22, 2025 at 2:47 AM
Suns are clearly playing more aggressive and intentional basketball. Half their baskets coming in transition off misses, and the Wolves are a step slow.
November 22, 2025 at 2:42 AM
Gobert being a major presence on the offensive glass!
