"West Marches" is a specific type of game with specific rules. Not every campaign with a large player base and a rotating table is West Marches. When GG was running games, they were sprawling persistent worlds with a rotating player base. I run a 28 player game that's not WM. We need another term.

I feel one of the biggest modern tragedies is the gulps of understanding between Evil and Discomfort. There's a ton of things that make me uncomfortable but, maybe because I've learned to manage my anxiety, I know that just because something makes me uncomfortable, doesn't make it Evil.

Florida schools are a mess, but they can build a shiny new Alligator Auschwitz in 8 days. Nice to see Desantis's priorities.

I'm so jazzed about Fantastic Four. They're clearly teaching one of the most important lessons of comic adaptation. It's silly. It's important to know that it's silly. But you can't act like you're better than it. Because that silliness is big part of what we love.

Just finished another Ed Greenwood novel. Swords of Eveningstar. (Huzzah physical books) These things are just character study vibes. Like, hey let me tell you an extremely detailed story about a time some people were cool.

Stockton, CA: Heavily armed masked kidnappers drove up in an unmarked car and pulled a landscaper out of his truck and kidnapped him. When the landscaping company owner asked the men what they were doing, the kidnappers assaulted him and pulled out a metal baton.

It's a strange feeling when the real world equalizes with the one in your anxieties. Is this calm or numbness? Either way, we carry on.

It’s not a surprise that the man who purposely incited a violent attempt to overthrow an American election would now purposely incite violence on the streets of Los Angeles as a justification for military force against American citizens.

Not a surprise at all.

Sitting on my patio, 1 mile from the federal building. All I hear is birds, lawnmowers, and kids playing at the local daycare. L.A. is fine. Leave us the fuck alone and everyone will go home.

My latest in Joy’s House: I’m in L.A. So I can tell you firsthand that the only crises here are ICE, Stephen Miller, Tom Homan, the Fox weekend guy that’s running the Pentagon, and Donald Trump. open.substack.com/pub/joyannre...

I was a pretty big fan of Newsom's until he started entertaining right wing mouthpieces on his podcast and spouting unfounded bullshit on Trans people. However, I will give him the credit due for handling this literal assault on state sovereignty quite well.

🧊, the National Guard, and now the Marines are the Outside agitators. They are not coordinating with the LAPD. This is not about public safety. This not about "liberating" Los Angeles. This is about Trump asserting control. A petty tyrant and his toy soldiers that he can't even be bothered to feed.

Important thing to beat people over the head with: Trump has turned American cities into warzones and for fucking what? Prices are way up, jobs will be way down, the dollar is worth less, and now the highway is blocked off by cops. Maybe the Great Mythical Immigrant wasn’t the problem after all.
