Yes! I am working on a project with students in my spring class about the ethics of these chatbots. In my experience, they are just really badly done. But more importantly the ethical questions are urgent b/c these are rolling out in classrooms across the country. 🗃️
Even if AI chatbot historical stand-ins perpetuate stereotypes, state incorrect facts due to “hallucinations” & encourage students to spend less time engaging primary sources & drawing their own conclusions, the major $-making opportunity here will trump all caution.
