God's favourite crone. Transqueer, disabled writer & reader. Scholar at Manchester Metropolitan University.
Even if the EHRC continue to backtrack on single-sex spaces, even if our right to piss in peace is enshrined in law, I will never forgive or forget how many communities and spaces were eager to comply in advance with excluding trans people (especially women).

'Grandma, where were you during the erosion of trans rights?'
'Well, Billy. You see those plastic figurines? They're reminiscent of when I was valuing a franchise over a people.'

I'm so tired of the hatred for trans people, buoyed up by the government. More than that though, I'm tired of cis people who think they're on our side but can't even relinquish their fricking Harry Potter merch

The news on benefit cuts is awful, and I understand if you are feeling helpless and fearful. It's okay to feel that way, and to hold space for your anxieties and anger.
But please also hold space for the part of you that knows the world should and can be better.

I'M STILL HERE, even if I only post once a month or so.
Teaching & loving it - the kids are alright. Writing & editing, with an enormous, exciting, horrible deadline at the end of April. And mostly wearing this dressing gown, which was painstakingly stitched by my partner.

If your event is accessible, but the afterparty/networking/social isn't, you are shutting disabled people out of community, connection, and opportunity.

The harder you stomp trans people down, the faster we rise. Always have, always will. We will prevail.
There’s also a T in Riot which is what Stonewall was.

If they think they can erase a vital part of our community and the literal reason there even is a Stonewall monument, it might be time to remind these MFs what a riot looks like
The National Park Service eliminated references to transgender people from its Stonewall National Monument web page, removing the “T” in references to LGBTQ+ on the official site for the Greenwich Village monument, which marks a milestone in the fight for gay rights.

Humans can be and are all sorts of things, but:

No human is illegal.
No human is a debate.
No human is a question.
No human is an epidemic.

The machine that produces output likely to be described by its input according to a statistical model is just never going to be where you find the uniqueness that makes things good

You know, just, by definition

Freshened up the mane & now sporting a raspberry mullet straight out of an 80s movie. Was gonna go for a professional trim but you can't beat a pair of kitchen scissors & a dash of hubris

Woken up enraged at the world. How could I not be?

Anyone want to open a barber to service the celebs and politicians? I'll run the pie shop below it. 🗡️ 🥧

Cannot remember if I said so here but omgosh I start teaching at uni in just over two weeks. Had the induction this afternoon.

Bullets sweated & bricks shat today, but had the immense pleasure of meeting @aspaceofonesown.bsky.social.

Here's what a lifetime of severe mental illness has taught me about catastrophe and Bad Fucking Times: it ain't over 'til it's over.

AI is making the world a worse place, physically and spiritually. I absolutely do not condone its use in making 'art' or disseminating ideas and I am fucking sick of AI apologists claiming it is gatekeeping to hate AI.
Art doesn't need to be 'good' to be art but ART REQUIRES AN ARTIST TO BE ART.

I have taken an almost total break from work from the 22nd of December to the present and omg, it's done me SO much good, almost like taking rest is necessary to function? My brain feels looser and lighter and I feel actually excited to go on with my projects.

I am carrying out my annual tradition of humming Christmas songs while writing about unimaginable horrors befalling people. The life of a writer.

Spotify deciding to take down "Christmas Bells" from the Broadway album of Rent is a seasonal hate crime against me personally

Deactivated my account on X after eleven years. That platform is irredeemably awful, & although I've built community there, nothing about that site is worth it.

You're not going to believe this, but outrageously, my work did not do itself while I was on holiday ignoring all of it.

My partner took a photo of me that I actually like; thought it was worth documenting. I'm in Austria practicing my dreadful German & having a lovely time with loved ones.

I've been working my arse off to finish a manuscript & I will be so proud when I'm done. AI isn't graft or craft.
It occurred to me that despite how hard and frustrating writing this book has been, & being so late it put my publishing schedule in serious trouble, I never once considered letting a machine do the hard part for me so it can rob me of the right to work through my problems, process, and learn

On a little adventure in Austria.

On #AssistedDying, I can only say this: I cannot trust a government with disabled deaths who are untrustworthy with disabled lives. I'm not against the concept but I do not trust a disableist government to deliver it.

It is a drizzly Wednesday, and I'm so proud of you. You probably don't hear that enough. But it's true. You made it! You're here! I'm so happy we exist together. Look at us being human, flawed and gorgeous, on this mortal coil. You're beautiful and worthy of love.

If we want to avoid students with marginalisations using AI, we need to do more to level the playing field on a human level. Students with disabilities or language barriers deserve support, & in the absence of accessible language & clear instruction they will seek it out themselves.
