... Age Verification Checks are not the answer. Giving our personal documents such as passports or driving licenses to random companies can not end well. We're already seeing data breaches and things will only get worse. Now there is talk of stopping the use of VPNs, or... 2/3

As with trans people, DEI, gay marriage, immigrants and Islam, the right is obsessed with cataloging imagined societal harms from porn. Which I suspect means them obsessing about it.

Anyway, nice to see them shout out the free speech demons fighting censorship at @fsc.bsky.social.

I think we’re moving to a broken internet model. You have to self-host, everyone good with tech has a blog based on a raspberry pi they run out of their closet, social media communication is extremely moderated, the internet functions like Encarta with heavily moderated comments.

what this means is that we are powerful, and that the empire wants gaza gone no matter the cost. we have to defy their evil attempts to silence us and continue to stand up for what's right

It IS important on this one to watch out for your mental, it’s really scary and people are going to be saying a lot of contrasting and conflicting things… stick to sources you trust, do what you need to make your voice heard, and don’t doomscroll on this

The house companion bill has ZERO cosponsors. The outlook for this bill is not great, even if this is a more serious attempt at pushing it.

We should still be vigilant, we should be calling our senators and such, but again, this is an uphill battle for them.

Ron Wyden continues to be the best Senate Democrat on tech issues. Listen to your colleague Senator Ron Wyden. Democrats should oppose S.3546 (the bill to repeal section 230 of the Communications Act of 1934).
Reminding everyone for no particular reason that Section 230 is one of the last things standing between free speech online and Trump having control over everything you see and say on the internet
