The current Government is showing worrying signs of shoving its head in the sand when it comes to our climate obligations.

Its transport allocations under the National Development Plan are shameful, boosting unhealthy, polluting private car use and de-funding active travel.

Just really sad to see this published when the Minister himself has shown real understanding of the benefits of active travel, when switching from car driving to active travel has been a claimed national goal for years, and when nearly half our car trips are less than 3km!

All in a context where storms, floods, food production problems and forced migration are hitting us more and more every month.

We’re now at 420ppm CO2 in the atmosphere compared to the 350ppm widely considered safe.

And Ireland’s transport sector is the slowest to reduce carbon emissions.
