Don’t mind me, just mourning a tree I’ve loved for half my adult life.

If you’ve ever been so lucky to enjoy a weekend at Hardly Strictly or a lazy day lounging in Hellman Hollow…you know this tree.

I’ve never considered myself a treehugger, but I wish I could give this one a hug goodbye.

I think he might have seen our beautiful fall foliage and blinking bike lights and assumed fire.

Y’all. The news is bad. I don’t know how else to say it. Hope you’re hanging in. I’m trying over here.

No war zone here. A beautiful bike bus with some great kiddos headed to school this morning in NE Portland.

Update from the Portland “war zone”: I have encountered a team of unruly third grade soccer players. Reinforcements needed.

Final update: Making my way home. It’s quiet here…perhaps *too* quiet.

Further update: I had to bus my own table. Anarchy looms large in this establishment.

Scene from the Portland “war zone” - I report to you from a crowded cafe wherein a group of retired women are gathered to write postcards to voters while others sip lattes and eat pastries. Wish me luck.

Apparently 3rd grade is the grade students learned to play the recorder. Our house will never be the same.

(Our dog is literally cowering under my desk, terrified by the sound.)

A day of whiplash reading climate headlines. The Trump administration is seeking to move the U.S. into true pariah -- perhaps even criminal -- status on the global stage. For shame.

@rhodesben.bsky.social says it and I agree. Also @bradlander.bsky.social: What a mensch.

This will be going for a lonnnnnnnng while.

A gloriously huge crowd here in Portland for the #NoKings protest…including two very special protestors.

Time for my annual “hood strawberries are the best strawberries in the world” post. Because they are.

Did my part to support our schools, fund seismic upgrades, and enable other critical improvements across Portland schools by voting YES on the school bond, Measure 26-259.

Portland folks: Have you voted???

I know I shouldn’t laugh about utter chaos destroying the economy but this alert definitely prompted a chuckle.

What a shameful scene they've created. Can you imagine walking to your place of employment and waiting to find out if you've been fired by scanning your badge? Just despicable.
