My STUPID gym bag broke today. The shoulder strap clips onto a little plastic loop on the bag and the little clippy part of the clip fell off, so now the strap falls off.

Looking for recommendations if anyone sees this ❤️

Muh that movie Fight Club. I'm not sure we'd know what to do with ourselves if we weren't sacrificing humans. You may disagree, but I'd like to hear your explanation of why we've all been doing it this whole time.

Suddenly, dozens of planes in the area must scramble to get out of a newly designated FAA "debris zone."

Their passengers are now unwitting participants in a test run gone wrong. (THREAD)

Because we're moral and intellectual cowards. We have a semblance of short-term material comfort and a little temporary safety. In a way, it's poignant. I expect seminal '90s Neue Deutsche Härte band Rammstein to be controversial around here, but they have a song, "Zeit"--"Time"--including the...

I think I should read less news and more books lately. I tell myself when I'm "doomscrolling" or whatever that it's alright because I'm putting my thumb on the pulse of America or whatever and finding news stories to read, but I feel like I'm caught up in a lot of hysteria, which I just want to...

I'm not going to make a habit of posting my Facebook posts or whatever, but the reason I think this one is funny is because, of the 50 or so friends I have on Facebook, like 20 of them are my Boomer relatives and like 20 of them are random people I used to work with.

I'm trying something new of going to the bar to watch a sports game

I asked the hostess to put on the Timberwolves game and the hostess asked the manager and they talked about how it was an odd time for a game and then the manager didn't put on the game, so I don't know WHAT to do

3 days ago, I got a big bag of baby carrots and a tub or whatever of garlic, herb, and cheese dip purely so I could EAT THE SHIT OUT OF IT but, like, among work, mealtimes, and sleeping, I haven't had an opportunity to. I've only, like, eaten a reasonable amount of carrots like 3 times.

Which...

It's not ME, it's the BIG OTHER!
And now for a cardio session: which always begins BY standing in front of the treadmill I booked for this time, trying to get the attention of the same woman who every time will avoid eye contact , then eventually get off with a heavy sigh and a disgusted roll of her eyes.

I BOOKED IT LADY.

I disagree because anything is possible when you're living in a simulation.

I don't believe in magic! It's not Gnosticism if it's computers!
I’m a big fan of humility, but I worry that discussions of epistemic humility focus too much on criticizing certainty. Proper humility means an honest recognition of capacity. Humans have capacities that allow them to be certain of some things, and it’s important to do so. 1/x
Certainty can feel virtuous, but it can also become such a rigid pose that it closes doors rather than opening them. Hashim Quraishi extols "intellectual humility."

I've had 3 4+-day weekends in the past 6 weeks or so and one thing that's emphasized to me is how much better my day starts with a hearty breakfast. (This job puts me on a kind of "10 on, 14 off" intermittent fasting schedule.)

I left the Terminator fan page I'd joined on the vaunted Facebook because their constant joke for, like, DAYS was infinite variations on displaying Sarah Connor's sex face from the original movie, which, like, 1) there was nothing odd about the sex face--it was just a sex face, and 2) for it to...

I guess I'm old because I got up at 5:30 am on New Year's Eve and went to bed at 3:00 am New Year's Day, and then I (basically) STAYED ASLEEP UNTIL 4:30 AM ON THE 2ND.
