If anyone wants some ideas on how to save the British university sector, here are the emergency actions I would take to buy at least a bit of time to restructure the system entirely. 👇
It's likely too late now to stop the university implosion: the mass HE system that we have built will not now survive in its present form. But we can still take measures to reduce the damage:
*Suspend/ delay REF29
*Increase high-cost subject fees
*Immediately confirm fee rises this Parliament (1/2)

I think some people hear “grants” and think that without them, scientists and government workers just have less stuff to play with at work. But grants fund salaries for students, academics, researchers, and people who work in all areas of public service.

“Pausing” grants means people don’t eat.
White House pauses all federal grants, sparking confusion
The Trump administration has put a hold on all federal financial grants and loans, affecting tens of billions of dollars in payments.

Shoutout to my fellow autistics who don’t do the nazi salute, accidental or otherwise, who don't abuse women or anybody else for that matter and blame it on autism.
I'm so tired of it.

Neil Gaiman claiming autism.

Musk claiming autism.

Autism doesn't make you do terrible, terrible things.

Stop. Blaming. Autism.

I am so thrilled about the announcement that MK’s new women’s and children’s hospital will finally be delivered.

We were promised the hospital over and over by the previous government and previous Tory MPs, but funding was never even put aside for it.

No more broken promises!

There are a lot of changes the US could make to their politics, but surely putting the inauguration in a better season would be a good idea (after Trump) ? 😂
The weather forecast for Washington, DC is predicting brutally cold temperatures — in the low teens — on Inauguration Day.

Good.

But despite what it looks like online, British values are still intact - Tate will discover that we will not vote for a misogynist charged with sex trafficking and rape in this country.
