Today, the #RebuildGP campaign is at Parliament, where Cogora is launching their new #GPWorkforceReport.

GPs will be meeting with MPs from across the political spectrum to talk about the crisis in #GeneralPractice and what this means for patients.

So this is the new great idea🤔

I’m pretty sure if Sarah had seen a GP she wouldn’t have needed to have a CT scan, no need to speak to the ENT registrar & yes it could be managed in the community

Why does NHS England always underestimate the skills of GPs?

There needs to be more of a sense of urgency from the government. We've already lost 1000 GP practices. If we lose more, the NHS collapses.
GP practices closing, redundancies, unemployed GPs & cuts in patient access
@rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social

This is not a time to release information in the ‘usual way’.

That’s the reason GPs are where they are, 20% cuts in £/patient funding & uncertainty over the future won’t help.

NHS England has neglected the fact that the increase in cash terms includes payments to PCNs
These payments aren’t available for GP practices to use
Stripping this away, practices have had real terms cuts in income
Fewer GPs employed, practices closing and many more considering closures or cut backs
General practice funding saw 2.5% drop in real terms after Covid
General practice in England saw a real-terms drop of 2.5% in total funding after the Covid pandemic, despite increases to PCN investment.

Today like every week day 1.3m people will consult in General Practice
1/30 will need emergency care at A&E
1/5 will need a referral to another NHS service for investigation or treatment in the future
GP practices have been dealing with 20% more patients than 2019
5.6% of the budget

The average number of patients to GP is 2300, a safe limit is considered 1800
There are some areas this is so much worse & disproportionately affects areas of deprivation
Closures of practices mean other GPs struggle as it’s virtually impossible to close a list
We need a safe limits for all

Did you know that your practice receives just £112.50 per year for each patient, whatever their health needs. That’s less than the cost of an annual TV licence.

It’s just 31p a day for every patient

GP & practice team needs more to support patient care

I love Ian Hislop but it’s worth noting that most of us would balk at the prospect of publicly admonishing a wrongdoer whose conduct you condemn in this way. I did it once to the UKIP/Reform/Brexit twerp Richard Tice but that took exactly zero guts.
This is speaking truth to actual power…
