KCD2's opening sequences (which take a few hours) basically retell the events of the original to catch you up onto the broad strokes.

Warhorse has a ten-minute recap video or a 5-hour movie you can watch on their YouTube, if you'd like.

In general, I think diluting headlines to referencing 'popular' or known quantities (rather than naming direct specific names/entities) does a disservice to readers on a broad scale, even if familiarity leads to more clicks on said headline. Such references can be misleading or even disrespectful.

(they did not sell ~900 million catalog games in 1H, decimal is two points off)

It's steadily gotten worse from basically being a basic spell-and-grammar-checker, to tone policing, to rewriting text, to just writing for you. Some people say 'it's always been AI lol' but there's a big difference between <looking for conjugation mistakes> and AI writing. bleh

Due to how DQ3 is a player-created party and DQ1 is a silent protag adventure, DQ2 feels like a "new" Dragon Quest with ""new"" characters for the first time since DQ11 (not counting, like DQM3). Obviously it's not actually new, but there's some compelling character stuff, even if not outstanding.

Nah, it was off and on before and after DQ I&II ha. Still, ~90 hours in one month! I've been swimming deep in Dragon Quest for the last several weeks.

45.) Dragon Warrior VII

Having played the 3DS version prior, I've been meaning to play the original version of Dragon Quest VII for a while. I both wanted a refresher before Reimagined & to experience DQ7 as is. I just ... soaked it in. It's a very unique flavor of JRPG; there's not much like it.

44.) Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake

The 'bigger and more everything' approach works better for Dragon Quest 2. It practically feels like a brand new game - the first in the trilogy with written characters who interact with each other - and now situated as a finale. Some rough spots, but 👍.

43.) Dragon Quest I HD-2D Remake

Taking the first Dragon Quest and reframing it was probably inevitably going to be a little bit weird. An enjoyable take on a genre-defining classic, still, I can't help but miss the concise and prototypical nature of the original. An interesting remix of sorts.

I haven't played TOW2 yet, but yes! I really appreciate Obsidian's approach. I know people like romanceable companions, but the writing can suffer when your goal is mostly to flatter them.
