Sometimes I fret about making embarrassing typos or mistakes in my reports at work. But then I see Square Enix make errors in their fiscal reports, and I feel a little bit better.

45.) Dragon Warrior VII

Having played the 3DS version prior, I've been meaning to play the original version of Dragon Quest VII for a while. I both wanted a refresher before Reimagined & to experience DQ7 as is. I just ... soaked it in. It's a very unique flavor of JRPG; there's not much like it.

44.) Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake

The 'bigger and more everything' approach works better for Dragon Quest 2. It practically feels like a brand new game - the first in the trilogy with written characters who interact with each other - and now situated as a finale. Some rough spots, but 👍.

43.) Dragon Quest I HD-2D Remake

Taking the first Dragon Quest and reframing it was probably inevitably going to be a little bit weird. An enjoyable take on a genre-defining classic, still, I can't help but miss the concise and prototypical nature of the original. An interesting remix of sorts.

Silent protagonist with some bold unstated words.

I am now 60 hours into Dragon Warrior 7. Between this and I&II HD-2D, I have played so much Dragon Quest this month I am hearing the music in my sleep, at work etc.

Reviews are coming in strong.

Sorry if this is a bit sappy or even a little big-headed but comments like these, for a site run completely in our spare time, make it worthwhile.

This is probably what you are referring to, but you post made me check. Capcom just released H1 financials. Rise is outselling Wilds this year (not to mention several Resident Evils and a a couple DMCs)

Trigun is pretty silly

I'm not sure why Square Enix's IR transcripts take ~8 months now (it used to be, like, 2 or 3 months), but they finally provided some copy from **February 2025**. This is talking about results up to December 2024.

Righting a wrong.

42.) Final Fantasy Tactics - The Ivalice Chronicles

I'm more of a Tactics Ogre guy at heart, but I think FFT is more of a 'must play' for both its storytelling & gameplay systems that have practically become genre staples. I don't even like the phrase 'must play', but FFT is at least close to that.

41.) Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time

Like Rings of Fate, not a bad game, but it doesn't work quite as well as a single-player game. Some of the dungeons are a little too puzzle-happy, and they get a little repetitive.

Sherlotta's a pretty tragic character, huh?

40.) Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree

Read my review. Sometimes disappointing games leave behind a bad taste, but Towa just bummed me out. I really wanted to like it. Great presentation, and I enjoyed the NPCs, but several parts feel underbaked or even a bit tedious.

39.) The Outer Worlds

Felt like replaying this before the sequel. I feel like I enjoyed this game more than most, even if it's quite conservative in scope. Really curious to see how they expand on this foundation.

Oh, and the Eridanos twist still kinda pisses me off, lol.

38.) Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch (PC)

Decided to do a replay for no real reason. Everything about the game's tone and style is super charming, of course, but I don't think I like very much about actually playing the game itself.

That this is one of the very first discussion topics on the Tales of Xillia Remastered Steam page is perfect.

I stumbled onto this site the other day. It's great how standard headlines are just a guessing game.

37.) Rise of the Ronin

The setting and presentation are really cool, combat is solid, & I appreciate that it's not a gigantic game. However, the open world feels by-the-numbers, & the role-playing dialogue stuff felt superfluous. Also, I don't think we needed like 40 characters to 'bond' with lol.

35.) Chained Echoes: Ashes of Elrant

A fine DLC, if otherwise seemingly a bit superfluous. Some great new music tracks from Eddie Marianukroh. I'll look forward to what Matthias Linda does next.

34.) Monster Hunter Stories

Another PC replay. I felt like playing through the remaster after Stories 3 was announced. This time I went through the post-game, which had some fun challenges. I'm gonna be one of those guys who 100%s the Stories games yet I've never played a real monhun.
