"Oh ok then, bye"

Gardaí announce they can't find Burke but are still looking. Burke keeps hiding. Gardaí quietly stop looking but don't announce anything. Burke keeps hiding. Job done.
Gardaí have been unable to locate Enoch Burke after twice calling to his house yesterday to imprison him for contempt of court.

A High Court judge ordered the former teacher's return to prison on Tuesday.

I'm guessing Tesco Newcastle has never heard of Dunnes Stores Henry Street, but they soon will
When a business doesn't know the history of the country they're in and picks a fight with the workers, it's not a great idea.
Do it in Ireland, lads?
You're fucked.

Really really long shot: does anyone have access to a 1921/1922 Belfast Street Directory? Looking for a business named Emersons, maybe a shop or pub, in Clonard/Cupar St/Springfield Rd area.

17 November 1988 'Cinema Paradiso' (in Italy 'Nuovo Cinema Paradiso') goes on general release in Italy. It is a total flop everywhere, except in one cinema in Messina and, maybe, it only goes on to win an Oscar due to the determination of Giovanni Parlagreco, owner of that cinema [Thread] >> 1

Just finished watching "Trespasses" on Channel 4, loved it. Loved Kenneth Branagh's "Belfast" movie even more, as it spoke to Belfast when I was a kid there. But by the time that "Trespasses" depicts, we'd left Belfast, cos my da had been ran out of it. Here's why...(thread)

I would love Ireland to qualify for the World Cup for all the usual reasons. But it would also be fantastic to have the whole country festooned in tricolours that haven't been put up by the "Ireland is Full" lot.

I realise it's an architectural term but "Brutalism in Cavan" just sounds so apt
My latest piece for my 100 Buildings series for @rte.ie Culture is Cavan Hospital designed by Andy Devane and team for RKD Architects and built by Sisk. You can read about a piece of Brutalism in Cavan here:

In Portlaoise. Only days after two men appear in court in Portlaoise accused of planning bomb attacks on mosques.
‘We call on all peaceful and compassionate people across Ireland to come together in unity and reject hatred in every form. Let us not allow fear or division to take root in our communities. Together, we are stronger and together, we will stand for peace, respect, and justice.’
The only place that Ireland's Muslim population pose any kind of threat to society is in online spaces like The Liberal dot ie, Gript and the far-right accounts on FB and X:

One of the more depressing features of any 'debate' about sectarianism in this country is the inability of some to understand that two things can be true at the same time; that people you may dislike can suffer sectarian abuse and that this is just as wrong as people we agree with suffering it.

I was in Jamaica when Hurricane Gilbert hit it in 1988. That was nuts in its own right in terms of destruction, but even it was only a category 3 - this is a category 5 so my heart goes out to them.

The establishment has no difficulty understanding the legitimate concerns of fascists, but somehow finds a relatively moderate democratic socialist incomprehensible. CC doesn't stand for anything that hasn't been common political currency since socialist parties first organised 150 year ago.
